Ran Xiaoyu could not help, but gasp for air.

Of course she remembered. Not too long ago, she had heard movements in the room and had rushed in just in time to see the scene. Had she come a moment later, Si Nan Yan would now be a corpse hanging on a beam.

“Alright. However, the palace is large and there are lots of servants going about their daily tasks. To specifically look for a young eunuch with an injury on his forehead among all of these people… I'm afraid that it won't be an easy task…"

“I know.”

“If we could reduce the area of search, it would help… Do you have any ideas on where to look, in which palace we are most likely to find him?"

“Which palace…” Nan Yan bit her lower lip, pondered for a moment and then gently said, “Perhaps, we should start with Zhong Hua Palace. I feel our luck would be better there."

“Zhong Hua Palace?” Ran Xiaoyu, who usually always had a calm face, revealed a stunned expression. “Consort Kang? You suspect she is the one who sent people to kill you?”

Nan Yan shook her head, “It's just a hunch. She had something to do with the red coral bracelet incident but I am unsure whether or not she sent people to kill me."    

Ran Xiaoyu looked at her in surprise. With her brows furrowed deep, Nan Yan's expression was severe. After a while, Ran Xiaoyu said, “Fine, I'll go and have a look around.”

“If Zhong Hua palace doesn't bear any results, go to Aunt Tongyun."    

“Okay, I understand.”

“Thank you, Xiaoyu.”

“Come on, you don't need to thank me." Ran Xiaoyu waved her hands and said, “I have to go back. However, leaving you alone here…”

She was clearly worried for Nan Yan with what had just happened.

Nan Yan subconsciously reached out to touch her neck that was still aching. Then, she said,

“I will try my best to stay safe. They probably seized the opportunity when I was alone to act so I will try to make sure a mama stands guard at all times. Also, now that they have failed and are aware that we know about them, they are most likely to lay low for a while."

“That's good, then I'll go.”

Ran Xiaoyu shook her hand hard, then turned around and left after locking the door behind her.

Nan Yan went to look at her back slowly disappearing in the distance. Soon after, the mama in charge of her came back with a steamed bun for her.

“Take and eat it.”

Nan Yan followed her order and was pleased to find that the bun still hot.

Actually, Nan Yan had downplayed the amount of there was under her bed. It was more than a dozen taels which  was enough for the mama to soften her att.i.tude towards her and treat her a little better.

Although she had just almost died, she still needed to eat.

“Thank you old mama.”

After speaking these words, she went to the corner of the room and curled up. She broke the steamed bun into pieces she ate one by one.

Early the next morning, Ran Xiaoyu went to Yuhua Pavilion as usual. She cleaned the places in Yanqing Hall she was in charge of, then, during her lunch break, she headed for Zhong Hua Palace.   

As she approached her destination, she saw that Zhong Hua Palace's doors were open.

Ran Xiaoyu witnessed Consort Kang Wu Wan, gorgeously dressed and with a graceful bearing, come out. Following her were her two palace maids, Qiaoyun and Xiang Liang, as well as two young eunuchs.

Ran Xiaoyu was still watching the a.s.sortment closely when one of the two eunuchs suddenly pointed at her.

“You didn't greet Consort Kang," he admonished. She was startled out of her trance and the eunuch scolded her some more, "In addition, you're in the way of Consort Kang. Are you looking to die?!"

She quickly retreated into a corner.

The group walked past her with their heads held high. Wu Wan did not even pay her attention. A gust of fragrant wind left with her.

Ran Xiaoyu was frowning in her corner.

Just now, she had carefully looked and none of the two eunuchs were injured at all. Was Si Nan Yan's guess wrong?

Because if it were the case, the odds of finding that eunuch with an injured head would drop even lower.
