Chapter 2178: Chapter 2179: The Inner Struggle
Encountering Ling Han here left Lin Yi extremely surprised.
In the elevator, Ling Han was similarly caught off guard, not having expected to encounter Lin Yi and for a moment didn’t know what to do.
“Team Leader Lin, you’ve come to Pengcheng too,” Ling Han said, regaining composure.
“There is a case here, I came to handle it,” Lin Yi stepped into the elevator and said,
“Are you here for tourism?”
Lin Yi wasn’t very familiar with Ling Han’s situation and didn’t know if she had returned to work at the precinct.
However, staying here probably wasn’t for official business.
Their precinct likely couldn’t afford a hotel like the Ritz-Carlton.
“I’m here on vacation with my family.”
“I wish you a pleasant trip.”
After exchanging brief greetings, Lin Yi didn’t talk further with Ling Han, walked out of the hotel, and then took a taxi away.
Following Lin Yi, Ling Han also left the hotel.
Outside the hotel stood an elderly man, precisely Ling Han’s grandfather, Li Wenjun.
“What’s weighing on your mind?”
Seeing Ling Han’s expression off, Li Wenjun asked.
“It’s nothing, just ran into someone I know.”
“I thought something had happened,” Li Wenjun said,
“I was just on the phone with someone across there; their people are heading towards Yuehai Tea House, we should hurry too, try to get there before them.”
“Grandpa, are you sure there’s no problem with this? I’m worried it might not be effective after using it.”
“You can rest a.s.sured, it won’t be a problem,” Li Wenjun said confidently,
“For them, this is already very advanced technology, and the product is in high demand. Many people have taken it, so there won’t be a problem with its effectiveness.”
“That’s good; let’s head out now.”
“Let’s go.”
Ling Han got into a nearby Honda Accord with Li Wenjun and drove towards Yuehai Tea House.
Yuehai Tea House was very famous in Pengcheng, many business owners and celebrities liked to discuss matters and chat here.
Because it offered a relatively private environment, all guests needed to make a reservation, making it an ideal place for conversation.
About forty minutes later, Ling Han parked the car at Yuehai Tea House.
The Tea House was styled in an ancient decor, surrounded by wooden carvings, exuding a sense of nature and simplicity.
Just getting out of the car, one could smell the strong tea aroma wafting through the air, refreshing to the soul.
The grandfather and granddaughter entered the Tea House, showed their IDs to the receptionist at the door, and were escorted to a private room on the fourth floor.
The room’s design was very Chinese, featuring a small water wheel and flowing water, the sound of which filled the room with a rich atmosphere.
Ding ding ding…
Not long after they sat down, someone knocked on the door, and Ling Han answered from inside.
“Please come in.”
The door to the private room opened, and two people entered. Though not in formal attire, they were dressed very officially.
What stood out the most was the black cases in their hands, which gave off a rather cold aura.
Seeing the two enter, Li Wenjun stood up.
“Please have a seat, we’ve been expecting you for a long time.”
The two men didn’t speak, just nodded slightly and sat down on the chairs.
Li Wenjun glanced at the cases in their hands and said with a smile:
“You brought everything, so you must have almost confirmed our ident.i.ties by now, we should be able to proceed with the transaction, right?”
“We can, but we will administer the injection, and we need to reclaim the rest of the items.”
The speaker, thin and with a solemn face, spoke with a Shianggang accent, easy to recognize.
“That’s not a problem,” Li Wenjun said,
“We have brought the money.”
As he spoke, Li Wenjun took a check from his chest and pushed it towards the other party.
The man shook his head. “We are not interested in money this time.”
“Not interested in money?”
“While verifying your ident.i.ties, we discovered your granddaughter has a special status; she is a police officer from Zhong Hai.”
The two men exchanged glances, not quite understanding what the other meant. Ling Han replied,
“I’m currently on deputation, and I plan to officially submit a resignation soon.”
When Ling initially tried out for the Central Guards Brigade, to commit fully, she had submitted her resignation.
But the leadership disagreed, allowing her to depute instead to reconsider her decision.
So, she’s still part of the Songjiang precinct.
“Being on deputation won’t affect this transaction.”
Ling Han eyed the two men carefully.
“What do you want?”
“Exchange the information you have?”
Ling Han furrowed her brows, sensing something amiss.
“What do you want to trade?”
“We want all customer information of the Zhong Hai Pufa Bank and need you to kill someone for us.”
“Impossible!”
Ling Han didn’t even think, immediately refusing decisively.
“Never mind whether I can do it, even if I could, I wouldn’t agree; don’t even entertain the thought.”
“Miss Ling, don’t get agitated; this isn’t as severe as you imagine. The person we need eliminated is already condemned to death; we just want him gone sooner. As for the bank’s client information, it won’t affect anything, but if you agree, it will decisively impact your future, and you only have this one chance. Please consider it carefully.”
“Sorry, I don’t think there’s room for negotiation on this.”
Ling Han didn’t give them another chance, turning and leaving without a second thought.
Seeing the situation get out of hand, Li Wenjun didn’t say anything, followed Ling Han out of the tea house, and drove back to the hotel.
“Little Han, won’t you reconsider?”
“I can’t comply with their demands, and it’s illegal.”
“But this is your only chance,” Li Wenjun said,
“Just get hold of their E-cla.s.s serum, and your capabilities will significantly improve in a short time. Entering the Central Guard will be no issue; and if you miss this, it will be hard to get in later, and our whole family will lack a future.”
Ling Han remained silent, her heart torn.
Ever since she could remember, she had focused on joining the Central Guard as her life’s goal.
She even believed that only by joining the Central Guard would her life have meaning.
But fate teased her; despite many years of effort, she still hadn’t made it through.
Her feelings were truly beyond others’ understanding.
But now, an opportunity lay before her!
Just with an injection of the E-cla.s.s serum, her abilities could be further enhanced, making joining the Central Guard not just a dream.
But the conditions offered were something she couldn’t accept.
“Why don’t you reconsider? After all, this is your only chance. If you miss it, there will be no hope left,” Li Wenjun said.
