Chapter 12: Genius and Trash
Master Xu looked at Duanmu Huanghun, the youth before him who had a difficult time concealing his arrogance, and felt a slight headache. Duanmu Huanghun was a striking talent. His green garment was elegant, his figure was as straight as a spear, and his handsome, dashing face was somewhat enchanting, he was probably a girl’s most favorite type.
Aside from his great arrogance, this fellow didn’t have any other shortcomings, but he was qualified to be arrogant.
He was born from a prestigious household. The Duanmu family had been in Five Way Heaven for a very long time, its ancestor had even been one of the elders who had founded Five Way Heaven. Not only that, his own innate talent was unusually remarkable. Among the students that Master Xu had taught, Duanmu Huanghun was in the top five.
Master Xu’s slight headache was not caused by his arrogance. In regards to young prodigies, who would not be a little arrogant? But Master Xu had lived in the Induction Ground for a long time, and he had seen many geniuses.
The hostile att.i.tude Duanmu Huanghun had toward cla.s.smates that were in lower realms caused him to be somewhat concerned about Duanmu Huanghun’s future.
Master Xu was experienced in educating students. Without batting an eye, he asked pleasantly: “How is it? It has been a while since the start of the new term, how do you feel?”
“It’s alright, just that this course schedule is a bit too easy.” Duanmu Huanghun’s reply was somewhat aloof.
Master Xu laughed: “Your family studies the origin and good innate talent, you’d naturally think that it’s a bit too easy. This is also why I selected you to be the cla.s.s president. You are the cla.s.s president, and I have high hopes in your leadership qualities. I hope that you won’t take it easy, and properly work hard.”
When Duanmu Huanghun heard about his teacher’s expectations for him, he couldn’t help but be a bit excited. A child at this age would have no immunity to compliments. The word leader, was such a grand word. Just thinking about it would excite someone. He involuntarily stuck his chest out and spoke with pride: “Rest a.s.sured Master, Huanghun will never let you down.”
“You have the ability!” Master Xu said with exceptional confidence: “Then as a leader, what are you going to do for those cla.s.smates of yours whose level are not that high yet? You have to help them, this is something that a leader ought to be doing. In that case, I will be giving you a task, the strength of the student Ai Hui in the cla.s.s is comparatively weaker than most. I want you to help him. How about it? Do you have the confidence to do so?”
Duanmu Huanghun’s mouth gaped open, he had on an amazed expression.
“I just know that student Duanmu was a talented leader who would a.s.sume the task!” Master Xu said with a happy tone of voice. Not even giving Duanmu Huanghun the chance to open his mouth, he immediately continued: “Then I’ll be counting on you about student Ai Hui! My demands are not that high; hopefully by this moment of next year, he would reach the realm of four completed halls.”
Duanmu Huanghun was thoroughly flabbergasted. He didn’t know what to say. Opening four halls within a year? What kind of joke was this? That trash hasn’t even opened his natal palace…
“What is a genius? Geniuses are those who are able to do things others can’t do!” Master Xu asked gravely: “Student Duanmu, don’t tell me that you are doubting your own talent?”
Duanmu Huanghun blurted out: “No…”
Once those words came out, his complexion darkened, and he felt unwell, as if he had swallowed a housefly. He had long since thought of that trash Ai Hui as an eyesore. In the entire Interpine City, there were only six people in the Introductory Course, and one was in his cla.s.s. As cla.s.s president, how could he not think of someone who would drag everyone else down as anything but an eyesore.
What kind of right did that trash have to a.s.sociate with a genius like himself?
Now that Master Xu had suddenly put him in charge of this b.a.s.t.a.r.d, he felt like there was a clap of thunder in his sunny days!
He felt like he was going to go insane. When he normally saw that guy, it had already made him feel unpleasant. And now that he was a.s.signed to help him, didn’t it mean that he had to see that trash every single day? Duanmu Huanghun felt that he was going to go insane, no, he was already going crazy!
He felt that coming to Master Xu’s office today was a complete mistake. He had actually encountered such an unreasonable situation!
As he walked out of Master Xu’s office, Duanmu Huanghun’s head had somewhat blanked out.
After walking a few steps, he immediately came back to his senses and realized what he had agreed to. He was in charge of that rubbish and had to help him step into the realm of four halls within a year!
If he was to be in charge of that trash, it was like making him feel as if he had stepped into mud. And having to help him open four halls within a year, made him feel like he had entered a poisonous swamp.
The elemental energy cultivation system had unceasingly grown and improved in these thousand years to the point where it was considerably well-established. Various clans and schools all had their original aspect, but the core ideology never left the five palace eight hall system.
The five palaces referred to the natal palace, the source in which elemental energy was produced. Different natal palaces produced different elemental energies; fire from the heart, wood from the liver, earth from the spleen, metal from the lung, and water from the kidney.
In every kind of cultivation setup, the first step was always the opening of the natal palace. Only when the natal palace opened would the first door between the body and outside world open. The natal palace was capable of greatly accelerating the absorption of elemental energy. There was a great different between the nature of elemental energy and spiritual energy. Inside the human body, the position in which they were stored totally did not follow the meridians.
After feeling about for a long time up till now, mankind found a total of eight places in which elemental energy could be stored, and dubbed them halls. The completion of all eight halls was precisely called Initial Completion.
The completion of four halls within the Induction Ground was not considered to be much. Forget about those elderly men, even he himself had recently completed four halls. Even if it was initial completion, he was confident that he could achieve it within two years.
However, the other party was trash that just started taking the Introductory Course. Attaining four complete halls in one year? What kind of joke was that!
If it wasn’t for the fact that Master Xu had praised him extremely well and had high expectations for him, he would’ve wondered if the Master was playing him. If it were someone who could go from the Introductory Course to four completed halls in one year, was it even necessary for him to teach such a talent?
His face was as black as the bottom of a pan. He had nearly turned around and broke into Master Xu’s office.
But when he remembered Master Xu’s “geniuses are those who are able to do things others can’t do”, he rigidly stopped in his tracks.
Right, he himself was a genius!
Duanmu Huanghun gritted his teeth and crudely pulled apart the collar on his gorgeously embroidered ivy clothes. Hmph, there was no such word as defeat in his dictionary. How could a genius ever admit defeat?
Pitiful trash, you must be properly grateful about the favor the heavens have granted you.
Duanmu Huanghun raised his arrogant chin, readjusted his collar once more, and resumed his usual gracefulness.
He leisurely walked onwards, mentally composing a plan, thinking about how exactly he was going to achieve the objective Master Xu had given him while not paying any attention to the admiring gazes of the females on the side. His family studied the origin, so other ordinary student’s knowledge could not be compared to his. Very quickly, he had thought of several possible plans of action.
His eyes became increasingly brighter and his handsome face was full of concentration, diluting his usual arrogance and wickedness, adding on a different kind of temperament.
The starry-eyed female students on the side stared until their eyes had nearly gone vertical. All of a sudden, they did not pay attention to what was beneath them and directly fell down on the floor.
Startled by the noise, Duanmu Huanghun lifted his head and his enchanting eyes immediately made the female students on the floor forget about their pain as they temporarily went stupid.
Duanmu Huanghun couldn’t help but chuckle. His warm laughter caused people to lose their spirits.
“Bang, bang, bang!” The surroundings echoed with successive tripping noises.
Ten minutes later, Duanmu Huanghun stood beside the hot springs whirlpool with an ashen face. He swept his gaze back and forth many times, but he could not even find Ai Hui’s shadow. He had walked through several cultivation sites that beginning students would frequent, but he still did not find any trace of Ai Hui. He had asked several students in the same cla.s.s, yet it seemed as if n.o.body had seen him.
Dammit!
A nameless fire directly rushed upwards. Duanmu Huanghun had never been this angry before.
Having to teach a wastrel had already made him feel humiliated, but the wretched trash was actually a lazybone! His strength was so lacking, yet he actually didn’t work hard. He didn’t even do the most basic of daily cultivation. How was he going to help this piece of mud become a wall?
But no matter how angry he got, he still could not find Ai Hui.
He had specially made a trip to the dormitory, asked every one of his cla.s.smates, only to find out some grievous news. Ai Hui did not live in the dormitory, and n.o.body knew where he lived.
G.o.d dammit!
