Chapter 400 Why didn’t you run?
She enjoyed it and temporarily forgot the embarra.s.sment of the afternoon.
In leisure time, Gu Yan often made herself an ice-cream cone. She was satisfied with this kind of life. When no one was there, she read books and thought something. When there were some customers, she would like to serve and chat with them. Summer went to an end unconsciously. She realized that the summer was over because the rain she missed came finally. The temperature dropped down later.
Like all food shops, there were few customers in the dessert shop when it was rainy. Gu Yan sat in the shop for a day and only sold a few doughnuts. She looked through the window. It seemed that the business in the surrounding shops was not optimistic apparently. She lamented that this was a tough way to make a living, packed up things and planned to close the shop earlier.
In fact, she did it out of another purpose that was to visit the shopping mall in the midst of the city.
In less than two weeks came to Mo Xiangyan’s birthday. Although it took no chance for him to receive it, she insisted to prepare a gift as a mother to her son.
Sometimes, she was paranoid that perhaps Li Yunhong would allow her to hug Xiangyan. However, she knew it was impossible.
Anyway, she closed the shop and went to the mall.
She strolled around the mall, but did not know what to buy. She knew that Xiangyan got everything in Mo’s family except her love that she had no chance to give. When she thought of everything happened in the past that was temporarily hid, she almost cried. Gu Yan tried to leave it behind, so that she would not burst into tears on the street terribly.
Gu Yan didn’t buy anything eventually because she knew it would make her sad. She knew that she had nothing to do with Mo Xiangyan and Mo’s family. She could never go back.
She had to bury the memory of the past in her heart and decided not to recall it. Forgetting everything was the best choice for all three of them. Since they could not live a happy life together, she had to forget all the things happened before.
It was raining harder. The wind was likely to uproot all trees. The depressing firmament gave Gu Yan a tangible illusion.
Gu Yan stared at those light gray clouds. She reached out but touched nothing. She could not be reconciled and jumped several times, but only caught rainwater.
Strong winds blew against her umbrella. Heavy rains. .h.i.t on her face, hair and clothes. It seemed that she did not mind it at all. She wanted to touch the cloud persistently, but failed.
“It seems that Mo Yichen, like the cloud, is close to me, but in fact, there is still an insurmountable gap between us. I am never in his world.” Gu Yan thought. She was flooded with grief and burst into tears.
Negative emotions were like a container of water. When people were full of depression, they would vent their feelings. After it, they would get better. Gu Yan had suppressed herself for a long time and let out her emotion thoroughly. Tears and raindrops poured down her face. Gu Yan picked up her umbrella, but the umbrella stand was broken. Therefore, she called Manla with her mobile phone asking for a ride, but Manla’s phone went off. She tried several times and got the same result. Gu Yan couldn’t figure out anybody else that she could call.
Qi Changfeng?
She thought of his name. She didn’t see him for a week since he left the dessert shop awkwardly the last time. She always wanted to thank him for helping her when she was in the most depressed period. She wanted to make an apology because she had already fallen in love with another man. She couldn’t accept his love.
She hesitated to call him and felt dizzy. Finally, her phone was power off in the heavy rain. She decided to walk back.
When Qi Changfeng found Gu Yan who held a broken umbrella walking along the side of the road in the heavy rain, she was wet all over, but it seemed that she didn’t mind it.
It was raining heavily and the wind was blowing. When Qi Changfeng knew it, the rain galloped harder. Thinking of Gu Yan, he drove directly to the dessert shop without hesitation. However, he found that the dessert shop was closed. He looked for her along the path that she walked to her home and found Gu Yan who got soaked.
He drove to catch up her and stopped in front of her. She looked startled obviously.
“Why are you here?” As soon as he said it, he felt that it was stupid question.
“Go home.” Gu Yan answered his question anyway.
“What happened to your umbrella? Why don’t you call me and let me pick you up?”
For the first time, Qi Changfeng felt that he asked a series of stupid questions. She had the power to make him lose all his calmness and reason in an instant. He always acted dully when facing her.
“The umbrella got damaged from the wind and my phone was power off because of water damage.” After she answered him orderly, he realized that she talked to him in the rain all the time.
He took off his coat quickly and put it on Gu Yan. Although a coat could not help her because she got wet through, he still did such a thing that he would never do before.
He opened the car door and held her to get inside, thinking his abnormal behavior. He looked at her. There were water droplets on her long eyelashes. The rims of her eyes were red, as if she just cried. He always felt a tender pity for her.
After confirming that he had closed the door of the front pa.s.senger seat, he sat back in his driver’s seat.
He turned his head to look at the woman next to him and wanted to ask her why she cried. He opened his mouth, but didn’t have courage to ask her. He was afraid that she would say it was okay or that she would tell him about her affair because he always knew there was someone in her heart, but the one was not him.
“Why not run?” He decided to break the silence at first.
“What?” She didn’t get it at the moment.
“People will run to avoid being soaked.” He felt that the questions he asked today were really stupid, but he would rather carry on this kind of non-nutritious dialogue than keep silent.
He did not expect that she would smile.
“I don’t think this is the case.” Gu Yan answered him seriously and unexpectedly, “I know I can’t run fast. Even if I run, I still can’t hide from the rain. Perhaps I will be tripped because of anxiety. Anyway, whether I run or not will make me drenched. I don’t want to fall into the mud.”
