Chapter 2568 The Intruder
Deep within Empress Persephone's mausoleum, Fang Heng quickly pondered the situation and then looked up at the Guardian, asking, "How strong is the Hanu clan?"
"They're quite powerful. With the strength of the death knights, we have engaged in fierce battles with the Hanu clan within the mausoleum several times. Both sides suffered losses, but we managed to drive them back each time."
The Guardian recalled and nodded, "I heard afterward that they set up an undead storm at the periphery of the mausoleum to block the entry of the Empress's will inheritors, thereby preventing the awakening of the Empress's will."
"However, the death knights and the High Priestess don't seem worried about this. They appear to have other methods for selecting trial inheritors."
Li Shaoqiang and Tan Shuo exchanged glances with Fang Heng.
Great!
This was bad news!
From what they understood, the guards of the Empress's mausoleum had previously relied on the death knights and the High Priestess to fend off invaders.
Well, it turned out that the death knights and the high priestess guarding the entrance had been taken out by Mr. Fang.
Without them, who was left to withstand the attacks from the Hanu clan?
Fang Heng, however, remained calm. He surveyed the area and said, "So, you should be quite familiar with this mausoleum?"
"I don't know much about it. It was personally built by the Empress."
"No matter. I want to know if all the mausoleums can be opened."
"I'm not sure. I only know that some of the mausoleums contain the wills of the guards, and those wills can be awakened. They have been awakened before to deal with the invaders from the Hanu clan."
"You could wake them up?" Fang Heng shrugged and said, "Just awaken all the mausoleum guardians below the commander-level Death G.o.d. We need their strength to withstand the attacks from the Hanu clan.
"Yes, I can do that, if it is your command..."
"Of course, it is my command."
"I understand."
The Guardian accepted Fang Heng's command. It quickly condensed a mark in front of itself.
Whoosh! Whoosh! Whoosh!!!
About two-thirds of the coffins in the Great Hall were triggered, and black mist began to surge out from them!
One by one, human figures condensed in the black fog and returned to their physical forms.
Once restored, the Guardians and Death G.o.ds turned to face Fang Heng.
Unfazed, Fang Heng met their gazes one by one and then said in a deep voice, "As you can see, the mausoleum is currently being invaded by the Hanu tribe. The Empress' mausoleum cannot be invaded! Get rid of them!"
"Yes, sir!"
The Guardians and Death G.o.ds accepted the orders and left the central mausoleum area to provide external support.
Fang Heng then turned to the last remaining Guardian, "You should go help as well. I need to inherit the Empress's will, and I don't wish to be disturbed during that time."
"Yes!"
In just a short moment, the Great Hall was completely emptied, leaving only Fang Heng and his two companions behind.
Fang Heng heaved a sigh of relief.
Fortunately, he didn't fall out with High Priest Cliff. He only lured him into the sea of consciousness to kill him.
If Cliff were to directly awaken all the sleeping souls in the coffins within the Great Hall, it would be quite a task.
Li Shaoqiang and Tan Shuo approached and asked, "Mr. Fang, what should we do now?"
"Don't rush. Let's search the coffins first and see if there's anything we can take."
"Got it."
Hearing this, Li Shaoqiang and Tan Shuo immediately began their treasure hunt.
Meanwhile, Fang Heng mult.i.tasked by controlling the zombie creatures and Abe Akaya to fend off the Hanu invaders outside, then joined the treasure-hunting team.
The rewards were decent.
Most of the items were cultivation manuals, weapons, and artifacts related to the undead faction.
After the three of them thoroughly searched the mausoleum, they gathered once more.
Li Shaoqiang looked at Fang Heng and asked, "Mr. Fang, we've pretty much searched everything. Should we leave now?"
"Hmm..."
Fang Heng lowered his gaze once more to examine the feedback from the Licker swarm.
The Hanu clan's offensive was still within a controllable range.
It seemed they were inexperienced in dealing with the Licker creatures, which worked to Fang Heng's advantage. With the mausoleum's guards, the newly arrived Lickers, and Abe Akaya's vines, they had temporarily stalled the external a.s.sault, blocking the enemies at the outer layer of the mausoleum.
"There's still some time."
Fang Heng licked his lips slightly, turning his attention to the fifty or so unopened coffins gathered around the central hall. If all went as expected, these coffins likely contained higher-tier guards of Empress Persephone.
The higher the guard's level, the better the loot hidden inside the coffins.
Since they were already here and had severed ties with the Empress, they wouldn't be on the same side anymore.
Might as well...
"Let's fish for more!"
Fang Heng made up his mind, a glimmer of greed in his eyes. He nodded and said, "No need to rush. We've only just begun. Since we're here, let's collect a bit more. Just keep an eye out for me."
Tan Shuo and Li Shaoqiang watched as Fang Heng approached a coffin, placing his hand gently on its surface.
"Whoosh!"
The coffin was suddenly thrown open.
Black mist poured out in waves!
Before the mist could fully condense into shape, Fang Heng stepped forward, his holy power rippling outward.
The great holy sword!
"Boom!!!"
The sword struck the incompletely formed black mist, creating a violent shockwave.
"Sizzle!!!"
The black mist was scorched, rapidly dissipating with the anguished cries of souls echoing through the air.
"Buzz...!"
The secondary ripple effect from the great holy sword activated!
A visible wave of holy light surged outward!
The black mist was weakened even further!
Great!
Fang Heng felt a surge of excitement as he realized the effectiveness of his Holy Greatsword against these ent.i.ties. He swung the sword again with renewed vigor!
"Bang! Bang! Bang! Bang!!!"
With a series of powerful strikes, the black mist erupted into nothingness.
[Hint: The player has defeated a commander-level Death G.o.d.]
[Hint: Current kill rewards will be settled after the mission is completed. The player receives Tier 3 rainbow crystal*2.]
Success!
Fang Heng managed to obliterate the black mist before it could fully manifest!
Quickly stowing the crystals away, he reached into the depths of the mausoleum.
[Hint: The player has obtained an item-Death G.o.d's soul orb.]
[Item: Death G.o.d's soul orb.]
Description: An orb that nurtures the soul of a Death G.o.d. Using it enhances Death G.o.d skills by 5% and increases Death G.o.d bloodline experience by 3%.
Nice find!
Fang Heng's eyes lit up as he quickly pocketed the dark soul orb.
Next one!
He turned and exchanged glances with Li Shaoqiang and Tan Shuo before sprinting toward the next coffin.
Li Shaoqiang and Tan Shuo shared a look of surprise.
They hadn't expected Fang Heng to handle the souls inside the coffins so quickly and easily.
From start to finish, the souls hadn't even fully formed before Fang Heng shattered them.
Looks like there's no risk involved.
Let's keep going!
While Fang Heng focused on grinding for experience points, the higher-ups in the undead faction watched in shock.
Initially, they were unsure of Fang Heng's intentions.
But after observing him repeatedly using the great holy sword to annihilate souls and loot the coffins, they began to understand.
The hall fell into a moment of silence.
Was Fang Heng a newcomer cultivated by their undead faction?
Why did he seem more like a bandit?
