'Must have been a good dream.'
Saya was not a morning person. Often waking up grumpy and sluggish. She reluctantly got ready. By the time she finished showering and dressing half an hour has pa.s.sed. In the kitchen she prepared a cup of instant noodles and made 2 cups of coffee, loading them with tons of sugar and cream. For all her smarts and talents Saya could never master cooking something her father always jokingly told her she must have inherited from her mother. 'That's definitely too much sugar', she thought to herself. 'Eh who cares, I'll need the sugar high to get me through today.' Saya sat sipping her coffee and eating her noodles.
*Brrrrrrrrrrrrring*
'Who's ringing that d.a.m.n doorbell so early in the freaking morning.' Saya sat up frustrated. 'Was it the household staff her parents hired? But they were suppose to come only once a week on Sundays. Today's Monday. Did they forget something yesterday?.'
Saya opened the door expecting to greet the household staff.
"Hey, good morn…"
Before Saya could complete her greetings she was pushed away and in her surprise she lost her footing, slipping and landing on the floor. Saya stared at the beautiful girl before her.
"Sa...kura."
Saya picked herself up, patting her sore b.u.m. The two stood in the hallway staring and observing each other carefully. A mere two years had elegantly matured Sakura into a fine young lady. She was tall unlike Saya, with long legs that any model would envy. Her hair was cut short and paired with bangs that delicately framed her face. Sakura was the first girl Saya befriended. And Saya was also the first girl Sakura befriended. Coming from a rich background and being beautiful, athletic, and smart, Sakura was the perfect package. But it also made her the perfect target of envy, jealousy, and hatred from other girls. So she never gave a d.a.m.n about befriending the two faced b.i.t.c.hes around her. She kept to herself only interacting with her twin brother Kaito and Haru.
But Sakura's self isolation from the same s.e.x came to an end when Haru introduced Saya. At a glance she could tell that Saya was different from the other girls. Haru definitely look at her differently. Anyone with eyes could tell how Haru felt about her and at the time Sakura thought they were both madly in love with each other. So why did Saya leave Haru?
She didn't mean to push Saya and she winced regretting her earlier actions. But seeing Saya has stirred the pestering wound in her heart. It wasn't just Haru that Saya left behind. She left her friends behind too without a word. While her hurt was not as deep as Haru, it was still quite painful. It was painful enough to cause the usually cool headed Sakura to react in anger and visit Saya to determine what her intentions were in coming back after being gone for two years.
"Why did you come back, Saya?"
"I'm here to attend North Star University. You know that's always been my plan."
"Then what about Haru? Why did you leave? Actually no, don't answer that. I don't care why you left."
"What about Haru? He doesn't own North Star University and I've always planned on attending North Star way before I ever met him. This is my choice and it has nothing to do with him. I'm sorry for leaving and not saying anything to you Sakura, I truly am. I know you don't want any explanation or excuses from me."
"Don't you think you owe Haru an explanation. I don't care but he does. He's been searching for you for two years. He hasn't given up. But I can't watch him pine for you anymore. He loved you so much and I thought you loved him too. But I was wrong about that. I was wrong about you. You need to stay away from him. Let him go," Sakura told Saya.
Saya felt a coldness seeping through her body, hearing Sakura's words. 'Loved me, yeah right.' She steadied herself, composing her words coldly.
"I have no intentions in getting back together with Haru."
"Promise me Saya that you'll stay away," said Sakura fiercely, not believing Saya's words.
"I promise Sakura. I'll stay away." Saya's voice was gentle and firm, rea.s.suring Sakura.
Sakura left after saying her piece. It was a while before Saya moved from her spot. She never expected to be confronted on her first day back and definitely not by Sakura. She's always been so nonchalant with everything that not even her younger twin Kaito's crazy shenanigans could faze her. She was their school's cool beauty. Always poised, level headed, and composed…...until now. Her actions showed Saya how deeply she broke her friend's trust and her heart started to ache.
Dejected at her friend's words Saya finished her instant noodles and coffee despite them getting cold. Saya knew Sakura was right. She needed to stay away from Haru. It would be the best if they never crossed paths again but that's unlikely. After her breakfast she took out her laptop. The silence was filled with the tapping of keys and after a minute she hacked into the university's system. She compared her cla.s.s list with Haru's. They had no cla.s.ses together and the cla.s.ses they had were in the complete opposite ends of the campus. She made a mental note of the buildings to stay away from.
…..
Sakura and Kaito were Haru's childhood friends. The only friends he had to this day. Haru met the twins when they were five on their first day of kindergarten. Kaito took an instant liking to the aloof Haru and no matter how much he pushed the clingy Kaito away, he kept sticking to Haru's side. It was Kaito's persistence that finally won Haru over. Being Kaito's older twin sister she was always around apologizing for her little brothers silliness. It wasn't long afterwards that all three became friends.
Haru never told anyone about Saya. Sakura and Kaito only found out about Saya during their last year of middle school when Kaito "accidentally" saw her picture in Haru's phone. In reality he was snooping. The twins noticed a slow changed in Haru ever since the summer they turned ten. They didn't mind the changes because their friend's cold demeanor has lessen and he seemed much happier.
However during their last year of middle school a huge change in Haru's behavior caused the twins to wonder what caused it. He was constantly on his phone, messaging someone and whenever one of them asked who it was he would only reply with, "No one." At times they caught him just staring at his phone and when he noticed them coming close he would instantly put his phone away. Haru's behavior was puzzling and Kaito felt incredibly curious. Sakura was curious too but respected Haru's privacy.
At one point Kaito's curiosity got the better of him and during their break while Haru was in the bathroom, he went snooping in his bag for his phone. Kaito discovered that Haru's cellphone background was of a beautiful girl sleeping under the shade of a tree. It was clearly a photo taken in secret. Shock at the realization Kaito didn't notice Haru's return and was caught red handed. But instead of being furious, Haru was indifferent and calm.
"Haru I'm sorry! It's not what it looks likes. Ummm I thought I heard your phone ring and I thought maybe it was an important call so that's why I took it out of your bag. I wasn't snooping or anything," Kaito babbled on quickly and innocently.
Haru ignored his babbling friend. Taking the phone from Kaito, he stared at the picture of the girl in his background longingly.
"Haru who is that girl?! What's your relationship with her?"
"My future wife."
With those three words Haru left the wild mannered Kaito mouth agape and stuttering.
"Whaa.wha..wh..wha.tt."
