"It's stupid. Impossible. This doesn't make sense" This was Ezra's thought process as he did the chant. It was not of his own will, but for him, it was utterly impossible to manifest something out of nothing it was beyond him. No matter how hard he tried this would always come up in his head, it was more embedded to his subconscious rather than his conscious thought. Even though the process was supposedly thoroughly explained he never did make any magical reaction at all.
"Maybe there is something wrong with your visualization," Aerwyna told Reitz.
"Of course not the visualization technique that I gave him was the one I used and am still keeping on using it was pa.s.sed on by my father and his father before him," Reitz replied with scrunched eyebrows.
"Well, he definitely succeeded in the condensation stage of the magic spell he did not misp.r.o.nounce the words as well," Aerwyna said looking as bewildered as Reitz.
"We know of course that he has superb magic control because he can walk so it can't be the invocation stage either," Reitz continued and then asked Ezra,"Ez, are you doing the Invocation correctly? It seems that the incantation is about to activate but at the last moment it becomes a dud," Reitz inquired of his son with a bewildered gaze.
"I don't know father, I picture a flaming blade cutting a wall just as you said but it still does not activate," Ezra hid the fact that he was utterly disturbed by this phenomenon breaking physics, though he did try his best to visualize and follow their instructions to the letter. He even tried very hard to put a conscious blockade on what he deemed was impossible, he had clearly seen the empirical, in this world, this thing is certainly possible.
However, he found himself in a dilemma. The quote from Max Planck: "A scientific truth does not triumph by convincing its opponents and making them see the light, but rather because its opponents eventually die and a new generation grows up that is familiar with it," was his reality now. It looked like he was a part of the generation that would eventually die, but the empirical is clearly more fact, maybe he had to just ease up and get to understand this "magic."
Obviously, some of the fundamental laws are still intact, he just needed to find out which held, and which were the exceptions, from there on he could develop a theory.
"Maybe you are giving him a complex incantation. What grade is Flame blade anyway? " Aerwyna asked.
"My Flame blade is more advanced of course but the one I gave him is the most basic of the flame blades. Although It is somewhat considered as a top tiered technique, the one I pa.s.sed to Ez was of the same calibre as Fire Ball. If a normal flame pract.i.tioner outside the Blackfyre house were to activate the one I gave Ezra, It would barely count as sword or blade of any sort. The ensuing fire would just be around two and a half inches long with a width of about an inch. Well if Ezra was successful he would have made a three feet flame blade though, given his control, purity, and magic capacity." Reitz Explained.
"Hmm try to give him a different incantation," Aerwyna suggested.
"Okay then, Ezra try the Flame Ball incantation." Reitz followed Aerwyna's suggestion and gave Ezra the chant for Flame Ball, the most basic of the flame chants.
[A flame that giveth warmth, a fire that giveth light. cometh o flame, appeareth o fire, blaze forth thine fury. Showeth forth thine light. I invoke thee, Fire Ball, to showeth thy might]
"And just picture a fire, any fire will do Ezra. Wait you know what a fire is right?" Reitz checked his son as he might not know the vocabulary. He thought that this was the reason that he was failing the chant his eyes lit up a bit when he thought of this. Only to be dismayed by Ezra's reply.
"Yes, father I know," Ezra replied.
"More than you most probably. Fire is not an element but a rapid oxidation of matter in an exothermic combustion that creates heat and light." Ezra thought.
The experimentation to make Ezra conjure magic went forth for an hour or so and his parents finally concluded.
"Maybe Ezra is too young for this, the method and foundation of the Blackfyre magics is the body of course," Reitz told his wife.
"Hmm, Maybe but I doubt that. Ezra is too talented and I think even if we factor that, basically all magic is the same throughout. Your method of training is just for training offence that is why house Blackfyre advocates this. I don't see anything in his const.i.tution that would hinder him from conjuring the most basic of spells. Be it Earth, Fire, Water, Wind with Ezra's prowess it should not be hard for us to create something from the most basic of spells. Even with the different variations between the magic users. So you may be right that Ezra Might be too young for this." Aerwyna sighed internally, she felt quite relieved that her son was not as monstrous as he turned out to be, given that he could talk and understand and even control magic to a certain degree as a newborn, at least he still could not cast spells. She thought that if Ezra truly became a powerful bud it would evoke the envy of the Primarchs.
"It is alright Ezra, you might be too young for spells. You should not try too hard." Reitz softened his face, he was slightly disappointed at Ezra not being able to cast his first spell but he was still thrilled at the future prospect. He definitely sired a very capable son, and he was confident that in time Ezra would be able to cast magic on his own and his intelligence alone was already a big help in the future, what more of his magical prowess?
"Father, I am sorry to disappoint you," Ezra said in his high-pitched adorable voice that he had as he was a baby.
Reitz was moved and almost convulsed when he heard this He immediately replied. "Don't worry my son. papa is not disappointed, papa knows that you are a capable son. papa is proud of Ez. He knows that baby Ez will be able to do it someday. For now, you should know that papa and mama both love you very much and we will do our very best to protect Ez, no matter what even if baby Ez can never cast a spell in his entire life we will still be here for you. We love you, Ezra," Reitz said this baby-talking.
Aerwyna looked at Reitz lovingly. This is why she married this man. In the vast ocean of n.o.bles who were feigning affection for other human beings and stabbing each other in the back playing their political power games, and being narcissistic only being concerned about themselves, this man was truly genuine. There was no faking it. While other n.o.bles would look at Ezra as a tool to advance their power and prestige, Reitz really did treat him as a son to protect and cherish. He maybe boisterous and lascivious sometimes but that was because of his honest nature and he did not hide this from her. He was emotional and this became a weakness at times but for her, it was his main source of strength, not the t.i.tle or the power of Ashbringer. As Reitz said this she kissed him on the cheek and looked at her son while putting her head on his shoulder. "We love you, Ezra."
Yet again there was a warmth that engulfed Ezra's heart, as he finally acknowledged this chaotically insane couple as his family.
