Chapter6  Ointment As soon as the door opened, Cheng Xiaoya called. "Shen Mo, how dare you pick up the phone so d.a.m.n late?" Mo looked at the mobile phone and found three missed calls. She thought that these calls were all from Cheng Xiaoya. "Xiaoya, when did you call me?" she asked. "I didn’t hear your calls." "You didn't hear me? I'm so worried about you." Mo smiled helplessly as she took off her shoes, balancing the phone. "Sure, but I really did not hear the phone! What's up? Is there anything urgent? Is it Xiaorou?!" Mo was suddenly nervous. "Oh, my G.o.d! Why are you so nervous about her? Xiaorou is okay! She's in good spirits today. Actually, I'm worrying about you, you know?" When Mo heard Cheng Xiaoya’s explanation, she was finally relieved and smiled. "What do I have to worry about?" Only Xiaorou and Xiaoya could make her relaxed. "You didn't even tell me about you becoming a.s.sistant to our president! When I saw you in the morning, I wanted to ask what was going on with you. But then I couldn't see you all day, and you didn't answer my phone in the evening. It really bothered me." "I didn’t want this to happen, either! Today I was working for Jiang Hao the whole day, keeping up with his schedule. When you called me, I was just getting back to my apartment. My feet have blisters." Mo finally found someone to listen to her complaints. "What? You have blisters on your feet? Come on, Mo, since when did you become so spoiled?" Cheng Xiaoya yelled, exaggerating from the other side of the phone. Mo didn't blame her for making a fuss, because she used to get Xiaorou through some hard times. Cheng Xiaoya knew all these things. "You know that I have been in Jiang Group for two years. The normal life here is so common, and I don't have many sports interests." "Well, that's it. You haven't told me why Jiang Hao suddenly let you be the president's a.s.sistant. Is that what you asked for?" Mo limped over to the table, and poured herself a cup of warm water, then limped back and sat down on the sofa. "How could I ask him for this now? To tell the truth, I still feel that I have not captured his heart. Of course, I will not act hastily. But Jiang Hao's att.i.tude toward me from last night until now has been very strange." "Is there any progress?" "I don't know if it's progress. It looks like I am getting closer and closer to success, but there's always an unclear upset in my heart, especially that I have exposed my ident.i.ty so soon." Cheng Xiaoya sighed on the other side. "Anyway, be careful, and if anything happens,  remember to call me first." "Well, you don't need to worry about this."  Hung up the phone, Mo's heart felt much better. The fatigue of a day was also weakened by this intimate phone call. She was just about to go to the bedroom to take a bath, when her feet touched something furry. "Ah!" she cried out automatically. As her voice fell as several knocks came at the door. "May I come in?" Seeing that Su Ye standing by the door, Mo finally realized that what surrounded her feet was Maomao, the kitten Su Ye was raising. It turned out that when she entered her apartment, she forgot to close the door when she was so focused on the phone call. Maomao probably ran in through the crack of the door. "Yes, of course," Mo responded politely to Su Ye as she quickly got up. "I'm so sorry that Maomao ran away again. I didn't expect it to come to your apartment this time." Su Ye smiled guiltily, and then picked Maomao up. Mo smiled at him in a friendly manner. "Mr. Su, have a seat! I'll get you a gla.s.s of water." She limped toward the kitchen. "Miss Shen, what happened to your feet? Don't bother; take a seat yourself." "It's all right. Just a blister, nothing serious." "Miss Shen, you don't need to serve me. I should bring Maomao back. It's not good for you to move around if you feet already hurt." Mo did not insist, and she moved to send Su Ye away. Su Ye stopped her immediately. "Quite the opposite, no need. Thanks!" Mo obediently stepped back to the sofa.  But when she was planning to go back to her bedroom, the doorbell rang and she went to open the door. Maomao and Su Ye’s amicable "break-in" made her somehow uncomfortable. She had gotten used to her personal life. Especially since he was a man, she had not expected neighborly company this time. Su Ye returned with a bottle of ointment in his hands. "I saw that you were hurt, so I came to give you this. It is very effective." Mo was stunned by his goodness. She dully took the ointment from Su Ye and said, "Thank you." It was a warm feeling but a little bit awkward to be cared for by a stranger. "Em . . . just come in and sit for a while." Su Ye hesitated for a moment, and then finally he decided to leave. "Thanks, but you look tired. I don’t want to disturb you. Have a good rest." After that, he strode out of her apartment.  Mo opened the ointment’s cap and gently applied it to the feet. Immediately, she felt the cool and comforting salve bring relief. She smiled at the good feeling. The whole day's exhaustion was cleansed by Cheng Xiaoya's phone call and the cat interlude. Feeling much better, she took a shower and slept a rare good slumber. The work as the a.s.sistant to Jiang Hao kept her on a tight string the first day. Before, when she was still in the planning department, she was only busy when there were big cases, and the whole team worked together, even on late hours of overtime. They had a goal; there was always a sense of successful achievement when a case was handled well. She could also drink a cup of her favorite coffee in the spare time. The rich taste on her senses made it hard to forget. But now it was very different, and the work as the president's a.s.sistant had no clear, precise target. The only center was Jiang Hao and what he needed. It was Mo's job to make arrangements and preparations, one after another. Not only was this job to serve a person, but also a high requirement service job. Such work was the most difficult with which to deal. Mo thought she was smart enough, but she made mistakes when she first took over the work. It was not difficult to arrange Jiang Hao's schedule in advance, but when some bosses called in to make an appointment, or cancel a meeting with Jiang Hao, Mo didn't know how to answer them. She had never had previous contact with those clients. By the time she finished checking the profile and found the name on it, that one had already hung up. Besides, there were also charity parties, business parties, and so on. Mo could not always tell which was more important, and how they should be arranged in priority. Then, if she figured out which one was the first priority, she didn’t know how to insert it into the schedule that was already set down.Â
