==========================
It has been a week since the intern, Deegan had joined the company. It was a good start where Delilah had made him settled in comfortably first before giving him some tasks.
It was during his third day of working in the company when Delilah had finally given him some work to be completed, which was to update with the admins on the attendance list and the IT department. It was a simple task to be completed and he had done the work in less than two days. Delilah was impressed by his work and that, she did not foresee any mistakes that he had made.
Next, Delilah had given him his second task, which was to cooperate with the safety department on the quarterly team building activities.
In every four months, the company usually had a team building activity, an activity that can help to strengthened the bond between colleagues and to improvise the relationship of colleagues. Each departments will choose an activity that they wanted and the HR department will either approve or disapprove, after a quick meeting with the upper management.
When Delilah first introduced the activity to the upper management, there were many disagreements whereby they believed that it would be a waste of time and money. Fortunately, Howard was not one of the people who disagreed. In fact, he was one of the great supporters of the proposal. He loved the idea and thought it was very beneficial. He had seen great outcomes from many companies who had introduced a team building activity.
He had helped Delilah to smooth-talk with the upper management and a few weeks later after that, Delilah had received a memo that the proposal had been approved. Delilah was grateful to Howard at that time.
The first team building activity was a bowling tournament. This was suggested by Delilah because this would be a good activity to break out of one's stress and take some time away from some high-pressure dilemma that may have taken over their personal and work life. It was a successful event whereby the day after the event, every employees became more motivated to work and they clearly had enjoyed a day to have fun. According to the heads of each departments, they had seen improvements in their subordinates' productivity, as well as efficiency.
Hence, this kind of activity was important.
Despite this, Delilah had given Deegan the task to cooperate with the safety department to discuss and organise on the next quarterly team building activities, which will take place in less than two months.
Currently, Delilah was reading Deegan's report, in regards of the attendance. Deegan was sitting next to her, with his hands clenched together in nervous antic.i.p.ation.
Delilah turned her head and saw this. She laughed softly. "Relax. You weren't this nervous when you first started."
Deegan just smiled awkwardly but he did relaxed his hands and placed them on both of his knees.
Delilah returned to her reading and then gave him a thumbs-up. She placed the report on her table and gestured him to come closer. She began to point out a few suggestions on what he should have asked. Questions like why there were some employees who does not have a record on a certain day and so forth. Even if he could not get the answers from the admins, he should asked the employees themselves and get their supervisor's vouch on their excuse.
Deegan listened to her talk with bright eyes, looking at her in admiration.
After Delilah had left him to continue his work, she went off to meet with Aubree, who was in the meeting room, together with Howard. The two of them had just finished video conferencing with the some partners from other countries. And now, the two of them were just sitting in the room, chatting with each other.
Delilah knocked on the door before slipping into the room.
Aubree and Howard stopped talking and looked up to see Delilah, taking a seat in front of them.

"Hey Delilah, how's the new intern?" Howard asked, grinning.
Delilah put her chin on her palm, with her elbow on the desk. "Ah, he's good at his work. Given him some work to keep him busy."
Howard laughed, his eyegla.s.ses sparkled in the light. He was wearing his gold-rimmed gla.s.ses with the diamond studded rim again today. And luckily, he was not wearing any eye-catching outfit that can blind one's eyes. Instead, he was wearing a dark blue batik shirt with a rolled collar. The type of collar was not something you can see on a man's clothes but rather, on a woman's clothes. Apparently, for Howard, this posed no problem as he probably regarded the fashion as unis.e.x fashion.
It was such a contrast for him and Aubree, who has always wore a collarless utility blouse with soft colours. Her clothes were not too loud but rather, it has that soft appeal that shouts cla.s.sy and demure. She has always been a modest person. Though, there were times she can be brazen, especially to the ones she was close with. And Delilah was one of them.
The three of them began to chat, where Delilah updating the two of them on what has been happening with Deegan and what he has done. They also talked about the video-conferencing where Howard told her about Sheila's change of heart of changing the dateline from next month to next week. The dateline was about Aubree's work with Sheila, where she had a.s.signed Aubree to do some "impossible but possible" task to do. It had been a headache for Aubree as it was something she had not done before. But Sheila had believed that Aubree can do it, quoting, "This is easy as pie. Just watch the video tutorials!"
After the three of them were done talking, Howard went off and said his goodbyes to the two of them as he was going to do his work, meeting some people. Aubree, on the other hand, gestured Delilah to follow her.
Together they walked out of the meeting room. Aubree then turned to Delilah and asked her, where was Deegan.
"Probably still doing some work."
"Come and invite him for an early lunch with us at the cafeteria. I'd like to get the chance to know him," Aubree said.
Delilah nodded and went off to the other direction, where the cubicles are, while Aubree continued her way to the cafeteria.
Deegan was hard at work when Delilah stood behind him. He was surfing the internet and taking notes, while listening to music. He had his earpiece on so he did not seems to notice Delilah standing behind him.
He jumped in surprise when Delilah tapped him on the shoulder softly.
Deegan whirled around, his eyes widened. "Oh, sorry, you've startled me!" he said. He turned back around on his seat and quickly switched off his music player on his computer.
Delilah sighed. "It's okay, Deegan. I still allow you to listen to music, as long as you did your work." She then jabbed a thumb over her shoulder and asked, "Why don't you save your work and join me and the others for lunch?"
Deegan looked down at his wrist.w.a.tch and saw it was only 11:30 in the morning. "But its not time yet for lunch," he said, confused.
"No worries. We'll have an early lunch. Ms. Aubree wants to meet you, anyway."
Deegan nodded. "Give me a few minutes," he said, turning back to his computer. He quickly saved his work and put his computer to sleep. He then grabbed his phone and wallet and stood up.
The two of them made their way to the cafeteria. And when they have arrived, the cafeteria was already br.i.m.m.i.n.g with laughter and chatters. There was only 30 minutes left until lunchtime but the cafeteria was nearly full with people. Apparently, many of the employees had taken their lunch early today. Nearly all the tables were filled with people.
Delilah stood on her tip-toe, trying to look for Aubree.
She then saw someone waving at the left corner of the cafeteria and looked over.
Aubree was sitting with a couple of men on one table. She was standing beside the table, waving at Delilah, gesturing at her to come over.
Delilah nodded and turned to Deegan, who was standing still beside her. "Lets go."
When the two of them arrived, Delilah took a seat next to Aubree on her left, while Deegan sat next to Delilah. She smiled at the two men sitting across her and greeted h.e.l.lo.
The two of them greeted back.
Delilah looked over at Aubree and asked, "What are you having?"
"Beef tacos."
Delilah nodded. She turned to Deegan. "Oh yes, let me introduce you again."
Sweeping a hand over at Aubree, "This is Ms. Aubree. She's the Operations Supervisor and also, my supervisor. She then introduce the two men across them. "I'm sure you know Sam. He's one of the HSE Safety officers. And also, this is Jafar, from the Project department."
Deegan immediately stood up and held out his hand towards the two men. "Pleased to meet you, sir."
Sam laughed out loud before shaking Deegan's hand. "Likewise, brother."
Jafar nodded and shook Deegan's hand, as well.
Delilah nodded towards the food vendors and said to Deegan, "Come on and lets order for our lunch."
Deegan nodded and began to follow Delilah from behind.
Aubree and the two chuckled when they saw this.
Minutes later, Delilah and Deegan returned back to their table. Once seated, Aubree began to ask Deegan questions, about his personal life and how he was settling in the office. Deegan answered back with confidence and excitement in his eyes. It seems like he enjoyed working here.
Soon after, their foods had arrived. Deegan had ordered a beef spaghetti with a c.o.ke. Delilah, on the other hand, had ordered a grilled mushroom salad sandwich with salad, a dark chocolate quiche and baked potatoes.
When the waitress placed all of the foods in front of Delilah, Deegan looked over with his eyes widened in shock. He did not expect that this pet.i.te young woman can eat so much.
The other three people at the table laughed after seeing the shocked look on Deegan's face. "This is normal, Deegan," Sam laughed.
"And she hasn't tackled her drinks yet," Aubree added, chuckling.
Delilah brought her sandwich to her mouth. The mushroom used for the sandwich was the j.a.panese mushroom called the Hiratake, also commonly known as oyster mushroom. Other than mushroom, there were also some sauce, greens and cherry tomatoes. Delilah was not sure what kind of sauce that they have used because apparently, it was one of their secret sauces. But it was DEE-licious. She loved how it mix beautifully with the mushrooms.
As Delilah bit on the sandwich, the taste of the b.u.t.ter on the bread was smooth and velvety, making the bread more soft when eaten. With the sauce, which was tangy and sweet, the mushrooms tasted slightly spongy and silky. It was a mouthful, to say the least. Fulfilling yet satisfying. The juices from the spongy mushroom gave off a subtle seafood-taste, which made it more luscious to eat.
Once she was done with the sandwich, she pushed the empty plate aside and pull the dark chocolate quiche closer to her. She took a knife and cut it from the middle. As she dragged the knife slowly from the quiche, a lava of chocolate began to smoothly ooze out of the pastry.
Delilah took a dessert spoon and scooped the dark chocolate. After she ate the dark chocolate with its pastry, there was a bitter taste in her mouth yet silky. The pastry was crumbling with a hint of sweet. And the chocolate was so rich and deep that it made Delilah's mouth feel full of cocoa, coating inside.
Minutes later, Delilah was about to tackle her baked potatoes when the others, including Deegan, were done with their lunch.
Sam and Jafar stood up, carrying their tray of dirty plates and gla.s.ses. "Well, we'd better get going. See you around, ladies and gent."
Aubree and Deegan said their goodbyes, while waiting for Delilah to finish her lunch.
Once Sam and Jafar were out of sight, Aubree turned to Delilah, with her chin on her palm, watching her eat in bemus.e.m.e.nt. "You don't get full that easily, huh?"
Delilah licked her lips after biting on the baked potatoes. "I do but the foods here are so good!"
Aubree laughed softly. "Makes me wonder how many in a week do you spend on foods."
"Well, foods are good investments. So, its worth it."
Once Delilah was finally done eating, the three of them went back to their office.
An hour later before the office hours end, Delilah had told Deegan to not wait for her. She told him to just go home once the office hours have end. She was planning to meet up with some of the employees at the Safety department and she was not sure how long it would take.
Deegan nodded.
By the time Delilah had returned back to the cubicle, it was already ten minutes past office hours. And she noticed that Deegan had already left the office, seeing his cubicle was empty.
When Delilah was about to switch off her computer, she noticed a small box on her table with a small note on top. She took the box and peeked inside. She was surprised to see six pieces of small doughnuts inside, some with chocolate and caramels and some plain.
Remembering that there was a note on top, she read the note. Her face fell after she had finished reading it.
