After Zuo Ning had thoroughly recovered, he was no longer spiritless everyday. Not knowing whether it was because he'd been kept inside for too long to recuperate, as soon as he was set free and went out, his spirit was especially good every day. Before, he would get tired when waiting for Lu Chenghe to come back from work and go back to sleep, but now, he didn't even go back to sleep. Seeing that Lu Chenghe's car was slowly driving out of the courtyard, Zuo Ning turned around and ran to the gate to find Lang Ya to play.
Before, Zuo Ning only knew that these two German shepherds were retired military dogs and he'd believed that Lu Chenghe had adopted them out of kindness. Only later on did he realize it wasn't like that. Even if they were retired, retired military dogs couldn't be adopted by just anybody.
It turns out that Lu Chenghe's older male cousin on his mother's side had uncovered a big case in some military district. These two dogs had made a huge military accomplishment but they'd also received serious injuries and couldn't continue to serve in the army. After their injuries had recovered with great difficulty, his older cousin brought the two dogs here to Lu Chenghe.
For this reason, Lu Chenghe's older cousin seemed to have spent a lot of effort. Don't look at them as simply two dogs as compared to people, they were much more difficult to manage. He'd heard that these two dogs used to have a feeder who was under his older cousin and in the end, they died while on duty. His older cousin had promised that person that in the future, he would definitely find a good place for these two dogs to settle down. Although the military dogs were retired, they were paid every month and the retirement pay was also very good, but his older cousin would feel better if they were by his side. It was a pity that his older brother had no way to take care of the two dogs well and could only send them here to Lu Chenghe.
According to his cousin, Lu Chenghe got the better end of the deal. Thinking about it, it was easy to find retired military personnel; the majority of Lu Chenghe's bodyguards were veterans and several of them were even specialized. However, it wasn't that easy for retired military dogs. They were vital for looking after the house and protecting the courtyard. Perhaps, their security value would be higher than a group of security guards.
Zuo Ning leisurely walked to the doorway. Fu Na was lying on the steps and seemed to be sunbathing. Lang Ya was beneath a tree and using his claws to dig something unknown. Zuo Ning walked over out of curiousity: "What are you doing?"
Lang Ya turned around to glance at him: "Digging a hole."
Zuo Ning took a closer look and didn't see anything buried in the soil: "Why are you digging a hole?"
Lang Ya gave him a s.p.a.ce to sit: "It's fun. Why don't you come and dig with me?"
Zuo Ning looked down at his own body of white fur. If he were to dig, his entire body would be muddy, and he didn't know how many times Lu Chenghe would brush him and bathe him. Thus, Zuo Ning very conscientiously looked for a clean area to sit down: "You can dig by yourself, okay? I don't like digging holes."
Very baffled, Lang Ya looked at Zuo Ning: "You don't like such a fun game? You're truly an odd puppy."
Zuo Ning turned his head around to look toward Fu Na: "Fu Na, why don't you come and play?"
Fu Na, who had her eyes closed and was resting, opened her eyes and seemed to sweep a quick look over them with disdain before continuing to act as a quiet G.o.ddess. Zuo Ning found that Fu Na's IQ was higher than Lang Ya's, so much that it was high enough to be very human. He though that if it wasn't that Fu Na couldn't understand human speech and could only distinguish between commands by remembering syllables, he would entirely feel that Fu Na seemed more like a human than him.
Just when Zuo Ning was quietly enjoying the show of Lang Ya digging a hole, a burst of a b.l.o.o.d.y scent was carried in. Zuo Ning immediately stood up and determined the source. Lang Ya also seemed to have smelt it and after that, he immediately turned around and ran towards a certain direction.
Zuo Ning caught up with him at once. At home, there was unexpectedly the smell of blood. To Zuo Ning who hadn't even come across a thief at home in twenty years, this was considered a major event. If Lang Ya weren't there, he feared that he wouldn't dare to go alone. Oh no, a dog is going to look for where the smell of blood comes from.
Fu Na who was basking in the sun also stood up. It seemed that she didn't move only because she saw Lang Ya run over. However, she had clearly taken much more precautions than earlier. While chasing after Lang Ya, Zuo Ning carelessly turned his head around and glanced back, then he found that people's vigilance was truly inferior to that of dogs. What happened to dogs not being able to become spiritual!
As this manor was built on the middle of a mountain, coming up from the bottom required going around the mountain for over twenty minutes by car. Also, because of environmental protection, the population of little animals on the mountain had increased a lot over these years. In fear that some little creature would intrude into the courtyard, the yard was surrounded by extremely close fencing. The fencing was so close that only a one month old kitten could come in. Thus, someone as big as Lang Ya and Zuo Ning's builds could probably only squeeze their nose through.
The two dogs ran to the boundary of the fence in search of the scent. Lang Ya moved around the fence, walking back and forth repeatedly. As it couldn't go out, it had no way to continue to look for the source of the odor. Aside from playing in the house or finding Lang Ya to play, Zuo Ning simply had not been to the outer area of the courtyard. Seeing that outside was a dense forest and also smelling an increasingly heavy b.l.o.o.d.y scent, it inexplicably felt a little eerie.
