After our fight at the house, we decided to go out for a short hunt for some pack wolves to kill so we could draw attention to us. Of course, I won the fight but he would never admit it to anyone, though if other a.s.sa.s.sins asked they knew who had won before we told them.
He was too prideful for his own good.
I smirked in victory clearly p.i.s.sing off Ajax since he shoved me hard nearly making me fall on the ground but I caught myself. He sent me a wolfy smile when I shook my head at his insolence.
"Did you hear anything?" A man questions out loud, probably to another man, while I motioned my head to the other side and trailed the tree line with Ajax's silent wolf following on the other side.
We crept up to the two men who were standing at some post that was on the outskirts of the pack house. They both seemed very unaware of their growing death that was slowly creeping up to them.
I glanced over at Ajax, seeing him staring back at me with a darker look than before making me nearly grin but I knew if I did that he would tease me about it.
I pointed at the second guy, motioning him to go for the guy further away from me as he nodded his head and crept through the forest around him. My feet were silent against the ground underneath me when I crouched into a bush and examined the two men who were sweating from the light humidity.
One of the men seemed like they were a wannabe guard with a gun strapped to his belt but however, it was upside down so that made no sense. He was scrawny and had literally no muscle but determined to do his job right.
So sad I had to end that job of his...
The other guy, however, was extremely buff and reminded me of my trainer in the school of the a.s.sa.s.sins. He had muscles that looked bigger than my head which was crazy but at the same time a valuable fighter for me and my skills.
I felt some darkness around him and it almost felt familiar. As if he was apart of the a.s.sa.s.sins at one point in his life. If he were... That would be a wonderful practice fight.
The best against the runaway.
The thought makes shivers go down my spine.
Pleasure sparks.
I waited for Ajax to show up across from me so we could take these men down easily but apparently, he was taking his sweet time p.i.s.sing me off.
'Ajax. Hurry your a.s.s up n-'
'Run! It's a trap!' A sharp howl came from a few feet in front of me making my vision shifted dangerously and dive out of my hiding spot, shocking both of the men in front of me.
They weren't sweating because of the heat, they were sweating because of nerves!
d.a.m.n it!
I dove for where Ajax was and saw that he was surrounded and taken down on the ground. His piercing brown eyes looked at me with shock and something I've never seen before, terror.
"Ajax..." I mutter under my breath, knowing I couldn't take all of them without compromising my disguise.
He snarled at my sympathy, motioning me to go when I heard someone coming at me from behind. In a blink, I dove out of the way and slipped out my knife.
I plunged the knife into the large man's shoulder, making sure to dig it as deep as I could so he would feel that pain. He released a loud roar in pain, throwing my hands away with a violent slap.
I backed away, seeing wolves or people surrounding me while Ajax struggled underneath a man who held a little bit of authority. My senses came to life when I felt the presence that I was beginning to feel familiar with.
"Nice to finally met the deadly Xenon. I am the Alpha of this pack and you will pay for what you have done here." Zavier told me in a cold voice as I turned towards him and smiled s.a.d.i.s.tically at him knowing he wouldn't be able to tell that it was the new girl in the neighborhood.
"Lovely to meet you as well, Alpha." I sneer deadly, surprising a few people by the womanly voice. Probably half of them expecting a man to be underneath the mask.
"Xenon. Reveal yourself and come with us. Don't make this harder for yourself. We have some questions for you and your partner." Zavier's voice was so much deeper than before when I smirked and revealed the dark smile on my lips to him, peeking at him underneath my hood.
"You truly are adorable. What will that woman... What was her name...? Ah. Faye. What would she say about what you are? Who you are? She will be disgusted with what you are. Do you truly believe a human will ever love a beast like you? This isn't beauty and the beast darling." I purred darkly, using my advantage to manipulate his mind and get angry with me.
"Sh-Shut up Xenon. You don't know what you are talking about." Zaiver growled, clearly having a soft spot for me when I tilted my head with a growing grin.
"I wonder what her screams would sound like. How she would shake in fear underneath my knives and daggers. The pure joy of watching her wither under my brutal nature." I shivered in delight, imagining watching a scene like that. "That'd be a wonderful gift for myself." My grin only seemed to horrify those around me as Zavier burned in fury.
"Don't ever f.u.c.king talk about her like that!" Zavier roared, surprising me a little bit but I didn't allow myself to reveal those emotions.
"Seems like that the little Alpha has gotten over his phobia of women." I snicker more to myself, knowing that I could use this to my advantage.
"I swear if you ever hurt her. I will murder you." He promises making me smirk and reveal the b.l.o.o.d.y red in my eyes.
"Then you better let go of my partner. It wouldn't be nice to find her dead in the gorgeous home." I smiled knowing he wouldn't risk endangering Faye which I thought was funny since he was protecting the killer herself.
"Alpha. Don't. Xenon won't risk it. We keep her partner we potentially learn about the league and we also keep Faye safe. She could go back on her word and kill Faye. It'd be wiser to keep her partner. She's useless without him." A woman with sharp dark hair can walking behind Zaiver before standing beside him. Her similar blue eyes piercing as dangerous as Zavier's.
"You think I care whether you keep my partner? He wouldn't reveal who I am. He doesn't even know my true ident.i.ty, darling. Though be my guest and kill him. I would even kill him for you if you like." I offer, slipping out a knife and taking a step towards Ajax staring at me in pure shock.
The seriousness in my voice got them to step in front of me when I tilted my head and smirked to myself.
"I thought you wanted him dead?" I ask the woman who was looking at me in pure disgust. "I really don't mind. There are more of him in the end." I shrug, putting the knife back and glancing behind me to see the man I stabbed earlier behind me.
Everyone around me was staring at me with mixed emotions. All of them feel different about me which was quite amusing to me but I could care less.
I had them all where I wanted them.
"If you all aren't gonna say anything to me now. I will be taking my leave. Please... Be gentle with my partner. He can get very sensitive at times." I chuckle humorlessly before turning away from the crowd. "I will be coming back here one of these days. Alpha." I turned to look at him, giving him a dangerous smile. "Let's meet again." In a flash, I darted past the large man and into the forest.
'I will rescue you in a few days. Stay safe and reveal your ident.i.ty. It'll help me in the end. I have a plan.' I mind linked to Ajax, cutting it off before he could yell at me for threatening his life once again.
My plan is coming together now...
All I have to do is wait now.
〰〰〰
"Have a great day, kids. Try not to cause any trouble if you do... don't get caught." I shrug, sitting back down at my desk when the oblivious kids scrambled out of the cla.s.sroom, rushing to their parents who were waiting for them.
I straightened the pile of papers that the children have done. Apparently, I actually have to grade some things in here and hand them to the parents to go over them with their child.
Weird but whatever.
My mind wandered over to Ajax, wondering if he was alright but I knew he was a big boy so he could handle himself if things got out of control. He was trained to be an a.s.sa.s.sin, not a child.
I honestly didn't care if he exposed me, but he would get severely punished by the league if they found. He was lucky that I covered for him for exposing me that one time in Chicago.
Not like it changed the result of the job, she still died very, very painfully.
A startling screamed echoed inside my room and into my mind when I sighed and got out of my chair. The clicking in my heels drawled attention towards my room while I stared at the small family who were bugging their daughter.
"What a surprise, sweetheart." Zavier grinned over at me, holding Lita upside down in the crook of his arm. His eyes seemed obviously clouded by what happened last night and I wasn't talking about our dinner.
I was talking about my own threat to myself.
Cla.s.sic right?
"What do you mean? I work here." I told him as if I had no idea that Lita was apart of his family. He slowly allowed Lita back on the ground before I walked over to him, sending a smirk over to the still irritated parents.
"Never would have expected that." He says seriously when I motioned him to follow along with me. "Are you leaving now?" Zavier asks me, abandoning his family with Lita.
"No. I still have to look over some things and clean up the paint mess. It'll take my mind off of things." There was a hint of despair in my voice, knowing I had to sell my act to him.
"What is happening? There aren't any... people being mean or threatening you is there?" He questions, implying that he was truly worried about the threat I made last night.
"Of course not. It's just... my brother hasn't returned from his friend's house last night. I'm worried about him." I lied. My acting skills were on point, internally I was grinning like a wild woman but on the outside, my eyes were hidden with worry.
"I thought he returned home last night? I left so you could speak with him privately." Zavier says confused by my words while he held the door open for me.
"Thanks. And yeah. We got into a heated argument and he left insisting he was going to one of his girlfriends. Though he didn't tell me who it was he was going to be with. I'm really worried about him. We've been through so much already." I sighed and watched small children run around the playground and hug their parents.
"Why did you move here?" Zavier questions when I wrapped my arms around my waist and glanced up at him.
I have to make it dramatic.
Oh G.o.d.
Ajax is going to hate my guts.

"Ajax has always gotten in trouble with someone or the officials so I have to watch over him closely. He has severe issues and he worries me since he seeks comfort in other women." I deceive Zavier, looking back at the young kids running around and tightening my grasp around my shoulders.
"I'm sorry to hear that..." He stopped for a moment, his thoughts wandering through his mind making me smile a little bit underneath the strands of hair in my face.
Perfect.
This is exactly where I want him to be at.
He may have gotten the best of me last night, but I will win this war between us.
The best part is he has no idea who I truly am.
And that excites me.
Honk!
I looked up, annoyed at the sudden disturbance when listening to a car on the streets behind the school speed down. The scent of alcohol in the air from whoever is driving the car as I heard a few children screeching about something.
"I'll get it!" A young boy yells happily, making a mad dart into the street while the speeding car made a sharp turn. Heading straight for the child.
Before anyone could react, I flashed over to the young child and dove to move him out of the way before the car connected with either of us. My arms wrapped around the child as I protected him from the harsh bruises and scratches from the ground.
My head hit the ground hard enough to knock the wind out of me, my hold around the child tightening due to the sharp pain that ran through my mind. The child in my grasp was breathing hard and fearful of the car that just came at us.
The car swerved right hard enough to crash into a nearly by pool. Alcohol in the air and any wolf could smell that in miles even someone like me. The sound of the car alarm going off in blaring sounds that only seemed to hurt my head even more.
"Henry!" A grown woman screamed as the child in my arms shook terribly from the shock of nearly being hit by the car. My arms and legs were scratched and torn up from the rough pavement, but that was the least of the worries.
The woman rushed over to us when I allowed the boy to rush over to his mom, struggling to stand up on my own. Someone grabbed my shoulders before I could drop to the ground again.
"I got you." Zaiver helped me off the ground as I relied on him to stand up, feeling the pain in my head intensified.
"I'm alright... Just my head..." I muttered, raising my hand to my head and hissing in pain while dropping my hand and seeing blood on my hand.
"You're bleeding. Here. Let me h-"
"Stop. I can handle... myself." I choked out, pushing away and shaking my head a little before going over to the car that was crashed into a pole and noticing that the man who had almost hit us was on the ground getting CPR.
There had to be a reason why he suddenly appeared.
Things like this don't happen.
Especially if the man intoxicated was a wolf.
I leaned against the car, going through the middle console and only finding receipts that showed the man's love for the local bar nearby. My eyes scanned the rest of the papers not finding anything I was looking for when I leaned over the driver seat and opened the glove box.
Ah ha.
There it was.
I slipped the letters in my pants, knowing that it would be suspicious if I took some papers from the car and kept them for my own.
Shaking my head and trying to rid of a headache, I pulled out of the car and heard the incoming sirens that were still ways away but could be heard by a human.
I have to get out of here. Even though it takes a while for me to heal, I will heal to fast for the comfort of pack doctors.
"Faye-"
"I have to go." I brushed past him, not even bothering to give him an explanation and went back into the school to grab my purse. The letters I had in my pants going into my purse, blending in with the students' drawings.
A perfect cover-up.
"Just wait. You're hurt let me h-"
"Don't touch me." I s.n.a.t.c.hed my arm away from him and avoided his burning gaze. "I'll be fine. Just stay here and be a good mayor. Alright?" I said in more of a snarky voice, trying not to be agitated but I felt like this was no coincidence.
Someone was targeting me.
Just by who?
"Faye. Please stop." He grabbed ahold of my arm once more while I clutched onto my purse and stared down at the ground. "Let me help." Zaiver pleads to me as I clenched my fists tightly and pulled away again.
"Just deal with this situation. I can handle myself. You don't even know who I am. So please, withhold yourself, Mr. Vera." I walked past him, not bothering to reveal the blood red in my eyes from the healing process.
He didn't follow me, the formalness in my voice telling him I was in no mode to argue with him and that he had no real reason to be following me around like this. It was a great cover since in human culture a man following a woman around is cla.s.sified as stalking.
In wolf standards... I wouldn't even be sure since I haven't been in a pack life in nearly twenty-five years. I can't even remember what it felt like.
Quickly, I left my thoughts and jumped into my car. I started my car and hurried out of the parking lot trying to shield my eyes and ident.i.ty from being found out.
