Chapter 3307: A Jade b.u.t.terfly
In the blink of an eye, three years pa.s.sed. During these three years, Lu Yin constantly searched for True G.o.d and the other Aeternals, but he never found them.
Progenitor Xi also failed. It was as though True G.o.d, Yuan Qi, and the others had disappeared into thin air.
Even if they had found the megaverse’s boundary, the Tianyuan Megaverse was still incredibly vast, and it was practically impossible to search every universe in it.
For three years, the Heavens Sect oversaw various parallel universes and made the most progress it had ever seen. Materials were automatically refined and sent to the Heavens Sect. Whenever new substances were discovered, they were immediately a.n.a.lyzed and then reported on to the Heavens Sect.
Energy converters, mechas, microarray weapons, and other tools were all in high demand. People had initially believed that they would struggle to fulfill the a.s.signments that Lu Yin had given. But as more and more materials appeared, confidence spiked.
Resources were gathered from countless parallel universes, and there were so many that even Progenitors were astonished. In particular, as more and more parallel universes were explored, all of them were immediately scoured for resources.
There was no universe that was capable of standing up to the Heavens Sect. The entire megaverse had a simple goal: gather resources, and then gather even more.
If Spirit Nidus was able to raise countless powerful cultivators due to their unified cultivation system, then the Tianyuan Megaverse would deplete all the resources from the various parallel universes to resist their terrifying enemy.
While this was a bit like draining a pond to catch the fish, they had no other choice. If the Tianyuan Megaverse lost the upcoming war, the megaverse would be reset, and everyone would die. There was no need to even consider the megaverse’s resources.
One day, shortly after returning to the Heavens Sect, Lu Yin received a report that the Sixverse Academy had been ma.s.sacred. Rivers of blood flowed through the school.
This news exploded in the Heavens Sect.
The Sixverse Academy was no longer a mere academy. It had become the place where the Heavens Sect trained its cultivators. When the Sixverse a.s.sociation was ruling the megaverse, there were already a large number of young elites attending the academy.
As soon as Lu Yin received the report, he headed to the Sixverse Academy.
Scarlet rivers ran through the entire Sixverse Academy. Everyone in it had been slaughtered, and a b.l.o.o.d.y stench filled the air.
Lu Yin stared at Xu Xiangyin’s corpse, and his expression grew darker than ever.
Many people had gathered, though none of them dared to even breathe loudly.
In front of Lu Yin, Food Sage was down on one knee, gritting his teeth. The man’s face was flushed, and his veins were bulging.
"Why did you leave?" Lu Yin's voice was glacial.
It was necessary to always have a peak powerhouse overseeing the Sixverse Academy, and that responsibility had fallen to Food Sage. However, he had been absent when the ma.s.sacre had occurred.
The man clenched his fists. "Lord Lu, my son was grievously injured, so I returned to check on him."
A casual wave of a hand sent Food Sage flying. He soon slammed back into the ground.
The man spat up blood as he struggled to get back up. However, he rose no further than one knee. There was no trace of resentment on his face.
Lu Yin’s eyes narrowed as he scanned the entire Sixverse Academy. There were absolutely no survivors. "Who did this?"
"I don’t know." Just answering the question caused Food Sage to cough up more blood.
Lu Yin then glanced at the people surrounding him.
No one had an answer.
A boat appeared beside Lu Yin as he brought out Lightstream. He entered the boat and sailed along the River of Aeons. He wanted to see who had slaughtered everyone in the Sixverse Academy. It could not have been True G.o.d, Yuan Qi, or any of those people. They would not have bothered with such a small place like the Sixverse Academy. If they wanted to slaughter the Heavens Sect’s people, they would have targeted some place with multiple peak powerhouses. On top of that, Food Sage certainly would not have been spared.
Various scenes flashed by. Lightstream was no longer limited to looking a few simple seconds into the past; Lu Yin could even use the Progenitor’s world to traverse the River of Aeons now.
One scene after another flashed by, but suddenly, Lu Yin focused on one particular image.
In that image, a student was being killed.
The scene only revealed a beautiful swirl of jade. It took the student's head, and the air was then filled with blood.
More such scenes appeared, and Lu Yin calmly watched them all. Every scene was gruesome and grisly, and the only constant as Lightstream sailed was the jade-colored streak that remained pristine even through all the blood.
Suddenly, Lu Yin saw Xu Xiangyin.
The man stood in the Voidforce Academy, positioned so that his back was to Lu Yin. The jade-colored streak flashed by, and the man slowly crumpled to the ground, dead.
Lu Yin waved hand, and Lightstream continued along the River of Aeons as Lu Yin focused on a particular scene.
What he saw kept moving forward and backward as Lu Yin reviewed it multiple times.
A young man had used the jade-colored streak to slaughter everyone in the Sixverse Academy. The first person to die had been Xu Xiangyin.
Xu Xiangyin had been a Void Morphora, equal to a Semi-Progenitor, and his life-bound voidforce puppet had been a corpse bug. The young man had not defeated Xu Xiangyin directly, but rather killed the man in a sneak attack. After that, the student had proceeded to slaughter everyone in the entire Sixverse Academy.
Lu Yin’s expression was terrible as he stared at the young man in the image.
"That’s Yu Leng," someone announced. They had been an instructor in the Sixverse Academy, but they had left two years prior. The man immediately recognized the student.
"I remember now! That kid was a talented Explorer who appeared during the Sixverse a.s.sociation’s last tournament. After that, he entered the Sixverse Academy to cultivate there. He progressed quickly at first, but he was also a cold person who was frequently bullied. Senior Xu Xiangyin helped him on several occasions," someone else added.
Lu Yin silently listened. He wanted to learn everything he could about this Yu Leng.
However, from what Lu Yin was hearing, Yu Leng had not even managed to reach the Hunter level, so how could he have killed Xu Xiangyin? Even with Food Sage absent from the Sixverse Academy, several Semi-Progenitors had been at the academy, and yet they had all died.
There had been four people with the strength of Semi-Progenitors, including Xu Xiangyin.
This was the worst ma.s.sacre that the Heavens Sect had suffered since the war with Aeternus had ended. The strangest part was how a single young man had succeeded in slaughtering everyone in the Sixverse Academy.
That jade-colored streak had to be the reason.
Lu Yin kept reviewing the scenes he pulled from the River of Aeons. He watched them all repeatedly, as everyone else waited.
As Lu Yin watched the past, Xu Wuwei arrived, and then Arrow Sage as well.
It needed to be mentioned that Bai w.a.n.gyuan had fled from the Cyclic Universe. He had vanished during the final battle with Aeternus in the Second Scourge. The Progenitor understood that Lu Yin would never let him go.
Lu Yin had ordered the Heavens Sect to hunt Bai w.a.n.gyuan down, dead or alive.
The scenes from the River of Aeons froze, and Lu Yin stared at a particular image that hung in the air. It was showing an insect. It was the color of jade, delicate and beautiful. It looked like a b.u.t.terfly, and it was fluttering at a young man’s fingertips.
The young man was Yu Leng.
He stood alone in the Voidforce Academy, staring at his fingertips in fascination. He had succeeded in avoiding everyone, but he could not escape from the River of Aeons. Lu Yin had finally found this particular image.
Lu Yin stared at the jade-colored b.u.t.terfly. Was this what had killed everyone in the Sixverse Academy?
Yu Leng was only as strong as an Explorer. No matter how powerful his weapon might be, it was impossible for someone so weak to kill a Semi-Progenitor.
Even when Lu Yin had been an Explorer, he would not have been able to kill a Semi-Progenitor, no matter what item he tried to use or how much he might have tried to Enhance it. A Semi-Progenitor was simply on a completely different level from an Explorer. In that case, how had Yu Leng accomplished it? Just what was that jade b.u.t.terfly?
A b.u.t.terfly… could it be related to Tian En? No, she’s already dead.
“What do you know about Yu Leng, especially about his jade b.u.t.terfly?” Lu Yin asked.
Someone behind Lu Yin voiced their doubts. “Why would he have a jade b.u.t.terfly? When he fought against the Voidforce Universe’s Xu Kang, Yu Leng used an insect when he was pushed, which was supposedly a part of the legacy that he inherited. However, that bug looked more like a dragonfly. He should have a jade dragonfly.”
Someone else interjected, “I remember that now. That happened three years ago. At the time, many people were amazed by how Yu Leng defeated Xu Kang with his jade dragonflies. That incident created quite a commotion in the academy. After that, Yu Leng was challenged several more times by other members of Xu Kang’s group, but he never used those jade dragonflies again. Where did this jade b.u.t.terfly come from?”
“I heard that his bugs came from some sort of sphere that had a number of smaller orbs inside it. The jade dragonflies came out from one of those smaller orbs.”
“Could this jade b.u.t.terfly have come from another one of those little b.a.l.l.s?”
“That’s impossible, right? If that were possible, then just how many different bugs does the kid have?”
Lu Yin’s eyes grew frigid. “Issue this order for the entire Heavens Sect and announce it to all the various parallel universes as well: use all efforts to capture Yu Leng. The kid might have disguised himself, so arrest anyone who is found with jade-colored insects.”
Lu Yin himself had used disguises on multiple occasions to deceive people, so he would not a.s.sume that Yu Leng did not possess similar techniques.
While disguises might be effective, the jade-colored insects could not be hidden, especially in combat. Yu Leng would not have time to hide such a thing, which meant the only way to keep it hidden was to not use it at all.
Less than ten days after Lu Yin’s order was issued, reports flooded the Heavens Sect. All of them were regarding sightings of jade-colored insects, and they had come from many different parallel universes.
The reports gave Lu Yin a bad premonition.
Soon, a person was delivered to the Heavens Sect. It was a middle-aged man in his forties or fifties, bound in iron chains and led before Lu Yin.
The man arrived defiant, but fear crept into his eyes the moment he saw Lu Yin.
"Where is the insect?" Lu Yin asked.
The man nervously gulped, but then a fierceness entered his eyes as he looked at Lu Yin. "I did nothing wrong! People tried to steal from me, so I killed them. How is that my fault? Lord Lu, if the same thing happened to you, wouldn’t you kill your attackers too?"
Lu Yin remained calm. "I asked, where is the insect?"
The man was about to keep talking when he was suddenly struck by an overwhelming wave of pressure. His head started spinning, and he spat out blood. Trembling, he pulled out a jade-colored sphere from his cosmic ring.
The sight of the sphere caused Lu Yin's eyes to instantly flare.
The sphere was exactly the same as what the Sixverse Academy instructor had described; it had many smaller orbs within that combined to form a larger one. It had quite the exquisite structure.
The young man panted, terrified by Lu Yin. He carefully tapped on one of the smaller spheres.
After a moment, a jade-colored dragonfly crawled out of the little orb.
The jade dragonfly carefully crawled onto the man's hand, where it rubbed its wings, producing a crisp sound.
Lu Yin stared at it. He could make out every detail of the jade dragonfly. Its entire body had the same jade color, and it lacked the internal organs of a living creature. Despite that, it somehow existed and was even alive.
The young man carefully controlled the jade dragonfly and sent it over to Lu Yin, where it eventually landed on his hand.
Lu Yin carefully examined the jade dragonfly. He could easily crush it by squeezing, but that was only possible for someone like him. Even cultivators as strong as Enlighters might not be able to destroy this bug.
Suddenly, the jade dragonfly tried to devour Lu Yin’s energy.
Lu Yin arched a brow. This creature was so tiny compared to him, and it could not even be called an ant. And yet, it dared to try to devour his energy without any fear. Was this the jade dragonfly’s ability?
"Are there more?" Lu Yin asked.
The man trembled as he spoke. "Yes. Each of the smaller orbs can produce a different insect, but this is the only one that I can control. I haven’t trained enough to control the next."
Lu Yin allowed the jade dragonfly to fly back into the man’s sphere. "Go train. I want to see all of the insects."
The man did not understand what Lu Yin wanted, but he had no choice but to obey.
About ten days after the man left Lu Yin, another person arrived. They had an identical sphere and produced an identical insect. This person was even worse than the first one, as they were barely able to control the jade dragonfly, though the bug at least did not turn on its master.
