Bob sat nervously in his bedroom upstairs, which he had officially given to his father that morning. The bar was closed down until after his mother was brought back, because he didn't want to give away his abilities just yet. He knew once his mother returned, it would be more difficult to hide, but he was working on how to explain it.

His dad was talking quietly to the cleric that had shown up to perform the ceremony.

"I can only contact her, and give her the option to return. If she decides not to come, there is nothing I can do, and she will never respond to another summons again," cautioned Francis, the cleric.

"Can I try and talk to her?" asked Hector, wringing his hands nervously. "We had a fight a week before she died, and I want her to know that it won't happen again."

Francis thought about it, then finally nodded. "If she refuses to come, but doesn't leave immediately, you can come and try to talk to her before I stop the magic."

Hector nodded and sat down next to Bob. The magic was going to be done on the bed, so if she was brought back to life, she would be laying on the bed rather than the floor. Bob and Hector sat in chairs, far enough from the bed to be out of the way of the ceremony.

Francis began to chant and weave the magic invested in him from his G.o.d, into a spell. Bob watched carefully, his sight giving him the opportunity to actually see what the magic was doing. He had something in mind, that he wanted to try out, but understanding this was important.

As the cleric's voice droned on, Bob thought about how he could make copies of himself and be in multiple places at one time. What he wanted to be able to do, was run multiple inns and bars all across the country. If he could learn how this cleric used divine magic to cross realms, he might even be able to have bars across realms as well.

"It's time, Hector," said the cleric with his hands still in the air.

Bob looked around curiously, and spied his mother's shade in the corner, highlighted with the magic from Francis' spell. She was looking at the two of them, but she looked sad instead of excited.

"Vivian? It's me Hector, your husband?" said his father, standing up, and then sitting back down when the cleric gave him a warning look. He couldn't see her, and Bob realized his sight must have been upgraded when he gained divinity.

"I just wanted to let you know that I'm sorry for what I said that day." He shot Bob a look, before turning his head away in shame. "I was an awful husband before you died. I was never there for you, even when you fell sick. I expected too much from you, without actually learning what you enjoyed. These past couple of months have been the hardest I've ever lived."

The cleric nodded at him to hurry as sweat began to bead on his forehead.

"I've sold all my businesses, and am willing to retire, to be with you. Whatever you want, I'm willing to give, if you would just come back to me?" His voice broke as he tried to keep his sobs in.

Bob found tears trailing down his own face as he looked her square in the face and said, "Mom, would you please come back?"

She came towards him and placed her hands around his face before nodding and heading to the bed. There was a flash as her body materialized. Francis sagged against the wall, exhausted.

"I've never held that spell that long. I wasn't sure it would even work."

"Thank you," said Bob, helping the man stand back up.

Hector only had eyes for his wife. He was kneeling on the floor, holding her hand when she finally opened her eyes.

"I'll be downstairs, telling everyone the good news," said Francis with a smile, patting Bob on the shoulder as he stood by the door hesitantly.

His father was whispering to her, but because this room was now a part of the inn, Bob could hear it all.

"I missed you so much, thank you for coming back!"

"I almost didn't."

"I'm not sure what I would have done if you hadn't."

"You would have continued running your stores, and going about sneaking like you've always done," she said closing her eyes as if already exhausted.

Hector looked puzzled as he glanced over at Bob, then back at her. "Didn't you hear me say that I sold all of my businesses? I told you that I would retire to spend more time with you, doing what you want to do."

She looked at Hector. "I heard our son ask me to please come back, and decided being mad at you wasn't fair to him, though I am curious to know why he glows?"

They both looked at Bob and he gave an embarra.s.sed half-laugh while scratching his head. "It's a little complicated, actually…"

Almost an hour later, they were all still sitting on the bed, talking. Bob had explained as much as he could about everything that had happened, and to his surprise, his mother was the one who wanted to abuse his new powers instead of his father.

"See, this was why I didn't want to tell you," he pouted, crossing his arms like he used to whenever he disagreed with something as a child.

Vivian laughed, "Robert, I will refrain from interfering with your new position. Has it really only been a couple of months? It seems like you have grown up so much!"

"I had to grow up when I didn't have a mother to baby me anymore. Father was lost without you. Someone had to do something with all of the crazy that was going on."

"What are you planning on doing? Having G.o.d powers seems to me that you should do more than just run an inn, or a bar in an inn?"

Bob smiled at her, taking her hand and said, "I'm not going to open only one. I'm going to try and have a bar in every big city all over the world, and maybe in other realms too. Could you see me serving drinks to angels or werewolves?"

She smiled at him, then laughed. "If anyone had the guts to do that, it would be your father's son."

Hector looked at her, "What do you mean by that?"

"Oh, come on. You don't think I didn't know about your secret missions from the king? You can't keep that sort of thing from your wife forever. I was so mad at you, because you wouldn't tell me anything."

"I didn't tell you anything, because some of those missions were really dangerous."

She wrapped her hands around his face. "Dear, when I agreed to marry you, I gave you my heart. I couldn't stand seeing you get hurt, because it hurt my heart as well. I need to know everything about you, to be able to care for you when you come home hurting."

Hector looked away for a moment before turning back to her. "I'm retired. It won't matter anymore if I tell you everything, because you will be there with me."

"I need to get back to the bar. Want to come with me?"

Bob was wiping the counter down at his new bar, and smiled as a young boy entered the doors, looking around.

"Can I help you?" he asked, setting the cloth down.

"The sun is starting to come up, and I couldn't get back to the warren in time. Is it okay if I wait until night time here?" asked the boy, his red eyes glowing in his pale face. The faintest hint of fangs flashed as he spoke.

"Of course. I don't charge for people to enter my inn. Have you had anything to drink this evening?" asked Bob, reaching for a gla.s.s. The faintest hint of sunlight was peeking over the horizon and brightening the night sky outside the only window.

The boy moved over, away from the light and shook his head. "I was too busy running from hunters. None of them are here, are they?"

"Even if they were, they couldn't hurt you here. My bar is a safe place. Anyone who tries to harm another will get magically thrown out!"

The boy's eyes widened at that thought. "Are you Bob? I've heard stories about you."

"I am. Are you a vampire, or a demon?" he asked, setting a gla.s.s filled with a thick red liquid.

"When did you come here? The stories always said you were only in the big cities."

The boy's eyes were glued to the gla.s.s, and Bob slid it over to him. "Go ahead. You'll remember what I say better if you have a drink."

He didn't hesitate any longer, finishing the gla.s.s in one gulp. "I owe you one," he said, licking his lips.

"Don't worry, I'm sure you will be able to pay me back later. Why don't you go have a nap over in the corner? No one should bother you."

Bob watched him go sit down and lay his head on the table. None of the hunters would even see him. He had figured out how to manipulate the magic at his disposal, after having so long to practice. Joe had only had to answer his questions once, and every since, Bob had figured out a lot. Any place he decided to claim as his, would magically become an inn, with a bar for him to sell whatever drink was viewed as important for the area, with the same magics applied from his original inn. It was great that Joe was so willing to scout out new places for him to open bars in. It probably didn't hurt that his wife Stella enjoyed some of his citrus drinks.

Returning to wiping down the counter, Bob allowed his mind to roam over the many different bars he owned now. Never again would he be bored. And the information he gathered was always available, right at his fingertips. This was perfect.
