But now he couldn't see her figure in the most lively place.

He stood quietly in the hallway. After standing for a while, he woke up from his trance. He turned around and prepared to leave.

'What if I see her?'

At that moment, the door opened. He stood still, frozen to the spot.

Lin Meng closed the door. As she turned around her eyes widened. She saw the man standing before her.

Her hands hung on her side, with her lips curled into a polite smile. They hadn't seen each other for five years. The atmosphere became awkward. She couldn't think of a better way of confronting him.

Gu Yubai stared at her. He wanted to see some restlessness on her face. Unfortunately, except for a sweet smile, her face displayed nothing else.

He walked towards her step by step. Every step he took resulted in the hammering of her heart, giving a strong sense of oppression. She moved back, leaning back against the wall. She could no longer retreat.

"What? You won't even say a 'h.e.l.lo' on meeting me? Or has our relationship become superfluous like that of strangers?”

Seeing her panic, he smiled. Shallow dimples appeared on his cheeks in happiness yet the smile didn't reach his eyes. They were biting cold.

“Speak. Why don't you speak?” He strode to her. He pressed his palm against the wall on her side and gripped her jaw with the other. He pinched her chin, forcing her to look at him.

Lin Meng opened her mouth but could not make any sound.

She had forgotten how it felt to speak a long time ago.

“Speak,” Gu Yubai roared.

"Does she feel he is not worth talking to now?'

She frowned in discomfort and reached out to pull his hand away from her face. He freed her chin, but in the next second, he curled it around her neck.

Hate. His eyes were full of hatred.

He hated her betrayal, hated her infidelity, hated being played by ber.

“I vowed to never let you escape if I met you again." He tightened his grip on her neck and gritted the words out.

She was struggling, but when she heard his words, she let go of her hand and hung them limply to her side. She looked calm; she did not resist.

Just because she owed him…

“You didn't love me. Then why play me?”

"Why did you get engaged with me? Why did you run away?"

With each statement, he increased the pressure on her neck. The blue veins on his hand appeared vividly against his skin as he gripped her as if to tear her apart. He stared into her eyes fiercely.

When he hadn't seen her, he could comfort himself by pretending not to care.

But after seeing her, all his self-control evaporated into thin air; all the nonchalance was replaced by hatred.

He hated her. He hated himself.
