Aker stayed up most of the night playing with his nature particles as he waved his hand around concentrating on having them follow suit.

The entire time Aker was waving his hands around to and fro he kept telling himself that it was training, vital and critical training. In reality he was so excited he couldn't contain himself, plus it didn't help that the other prisoners were yelling and screaming all night telling each other to "shut up".

Aker was so annoyed with their constant yelling while he was trying to practice, he felt like joining in to tell them to shut up. He figured since he treated so many of them in the medic station area they would probably listen, but he didn't want to stifle them as it wasn't a regular occurrence and he was practicing with his nature particles anyways. Not only that but because they were being so loud, he didn't feel the least bit guilty about his outburst that were happening every so often as he couldn't contain his excitement.

Somehow Aker did manage to get some sleep and upon waking up he followed his normal routine of practicing his sword sets. Each day when he woke up, he would focus on different types of swords, such as one day he may stand in place like a mountain, strong and unmoving. The next day he may be like a river, winding and flowing never staying in place and fluid. Some days he pretended he was a feather in the wind and would try and float around his tiny cell without any real aim just going where the wind would carry him. Yet still on some days he would swing his sword wildly as though it had its own life, he would attack anything that moved relentlessly, his only objective to destroy it.

Aker had discovered that by varying his sword in this fashion his speed of growth with the sword seemed to be more expedient as well as his understanding of the sword. As he practiced, he didn't have any idea of what he was trying to capture as far as essence was concerned, still he could somehow feel when he was making mistakes and when he was moving forward. It wasn't just his growth with the sword that was growing as his capabilities with his knife and throwing darts had improved drastically as well. He still practiced with his throwing darts on a daily basis however he only practiced with the knife a couple of times a week.

Aker had really wanted to try another weapon such as the bow or perhaps the halberd or staff, however, his cell wouldn't allow for him to practice those weapons. Initially when he moved into his cell there was plenty of room specifically due to his stature at the time. Yet due to his magic fighter advancement his growth had been explosive, and his once s.p.a.cious cell was getting smaller and smaller. Aker could still remember the first time he had seen some of the other prisoners who were in their cells being too tall to fully lay down and extend their legs and thought "I hope that doesn't happen to me", and now he was on the cusp of being in their same situation.

Aker could already feel that he was ready to break through both the Body Conditioning Bones and Blood levels any time, and once he did it would probably result in another growth spurt; at that point he may truly find his accommodations even more suffering.

"Someone seems to be in a good mood" Vance who had been watching Aker could tell that he was in a better than average mood at the moment. The last time he had seen him this excited was when Aker had figured out where they were in the universe and how travel worked. Vance watched over him for a couple of days after that as Aker seemed as if he couldn't contain himself.

After that Aker had asked Vance about how to find a specific planet, how to map out the stars and other questions that Vance was quickly able to deduce that Aker wanted to find his home planet. You would certainly expect a kid who was thrown into Aker's situation to dream about his home. Vance could only calm down and get Aker back on track by reminding him the best way to discover his home coordinates was to find the people who put him in The Pit and get it from them. Vance was able to see Aker reaffirm himself at that moment, another reason for him to get his revenge.

For Vance it was a touchy topic as he still hadn't explained to Aker who took him and why he was taken. Since Aker had never pressed the issue Vance didn't want to broach the topic either as there were just too many schemes there that would be overwhelming and distracting to Aker.

Now, Aker just needed to focus on getting stronger in every capacity possible, building his influence and staying alive. Already The Pit had expanded their viewing area twice to accommodate people who wanted to see Aker's fights. Since the inception of The Pit it was home to an audience of one hundred thousand, but in the two short years that Aker had been fighting in the arena it had been enlarged to house three hundred thousand and most recently was expanded to five hundred thousand.

Vance wondered if the draw of the crowd was due to Aker's status as an Emperor Candidate. You would have to imagine that even a failed Emperor Candidate must have a certain charisma and force that gravitates people to them. Even the group that was immediately circling Aker would force Vance to stop and ponder on. There was himself, Dr. Life & Death, Mavis, Sampson, Sneed, Cap, and Kara...each them treated Aker as though he was their most precious family member, including himself. When Vance had first met Aker, he had only considered him a means to an end. Naturally Vance had made promises to Aker and he was resolved to keep them even if it meant his death, but Aker and Vance had a business contract of master and disciple for the benefit of both. After spending two years together Vance had grown to care for Aker the same way a father would care for a son. He hadn't talked with the others about how they felt towards Aker, but he was certain they felt the same way.

Vance walked Aker over to the medic station as usual and it must have been that Aker was distracted because he didn't say a word through the entire trip from his cell to the foyer. Normally during this walk Aker would have questions from his previous night's training and Vance would answer what he could. As Vance looked down at Aker, he could tell that Aker was deep in thought so he called out in a semi gentle voice as to not startle him.

"Were here, you should run over and get ready. I hear your schedule in the medic station is packed as usual."

Aker who wasn't paying attention and was lost in thought about how to use his control over nature particles was suddenly drawn back to reality. Looking around he realized he was already at the medic station not quite sure how they had managed to get here.

"Sure, thanks so much master" Aker answered in a manner that suggested that he hadn't really heard what Vance said and was just responding with a canned answer. Before Vance could push the issue, Aker darted off to the medic station taking a seat at his normal desk. This was the spot he would always go to in the morning before the patients showed up, he and Kara would talk about their evening.

Today Kara was talking to Aker and usually Aker would listen intently as he enjoyed hearing stories about life outside of The Pit, but today as Kara talked she could clearly see that he was distracted. Seeing Aker distracted her first instinct was to get upset with him that he wasn't paying attention but after considering it for a moment she realized that today was the first time that Aker was behaving in such a manner so he must really have something important on his mind.

Realizing that he was only going to answer with "that's interesting" and "really?" she decided to open her book and read. Aker who had been responding on autopilot to Kara the entire time didn't notice that Kara had stopped talking and continued on with his thoughts.

'I can't test on people in the medic station as I don't know what will happen. Maybe I can skip working in the medic station and go straight to cooking today? No, who would cover for me? Maybe Kara could cover for me, that should be fine right?.....I can't do that. Her medical skills have improved drastically but she hasn't reached the level wherein she could cover everything here on her own. I guess I'll have to wait until my medical duty is done for the day, then I will head straight over to the kitchen. I'll ask master to let Teacher Mavis know that I won't be there today. It should be fine, when I was making my armor, I missed out on cooking that day, so this is just making up my time. Good, let's hurry up and get through the patients today.'

Aker's thoughts were desperately trying to figure out how he could get to the kitchen and begin his testing right away. He was so excited to test he had even considered starting in the medic station on the patients, but he quickly dismissed that idea. He had long postulated that if he could inject nature particles into his healing, he could apply it to medicine, but he was nowhere near ready for that yet.

Honestly, he could have headed over to the kitchen right away and left the care of the patients to Kara today. Learning directly under Dr. Life & Death and the Little Life Doctor Kara had herself become a first-rate doctor in just a couple of years. A normal medical student studied and practiced for years before they ever actually examined and treated patients.

In the case of Aker and Kara they were thrown into the situation of treating and growing so their growth was phenomenal. What would take normal medical students eight years was learned and used by the two of them right away. Naturally Kara did not have Aker's comprehension and learning capability, but she was certainly capable of handling her own. If it took Aker a week to learn a concept it might take Kara a month to a month and a half. While this may seem as if it was a drastic difference, in reality it may take a "regular" medical student six months to a year to learn the same concept.

Aker's views were skewed as he didn't work the medic station with anyone else while he was there and his exposure to medicine was limited to Dr. Life & Death whose medical abilities didn't seem to be measurable. Compared to both Dr. Life & Death and Aker it would seem Kara's medical skills were lacking but compared to the rest of the staff she was probably only behind those two at this point. Kara worked hard at keeping pace absorbing all that Aker taught her as well as studying while Aker was in the forge and when she went home.

The three hours working the medic station today dragged for Aker whose mind was not on his patients at all. Only once did he have an issue of a patient falling and having internal bleeding wherein he performed a quick field surgery to resolve their issue, that managed to distract him from the grind of waiting. The rest of his time was spent on normal issues such as rare poisons, blood diseases, and injuries.

Finally, when his time was up at the medic station he didn't even wait for Kara as he quickly called out to Vance as he was running away "Let Teacher Mavis know I'm going to the kitchen today, I'll be there tomorrow!"

Aker didn't stop running until he got to his station even sprinting inside the kitchen. Having Aker run to his station was a first, but no one stopped to pay any attention as they were already used to his antics. Between digging in the waste pile, creating amazingly heavenly smells as well as stinks straight from the pit of Hades, his occasional maniacal laughter and furious chopping they were all accustomed to Aker being outside of the norm.

As Aker reached into the waste pile, he wasn't even considering what he was grabbing as he just randomly grabbed the first ingredient his eyes took in and swiftly ran to his station. The first ingredient he grabbed, a poshige resembled an onion as it was layered; it was used to add a sweet flavor to food. Without hesitating Aker took his hand and moved it towards the poshige moving the nature particles in the air in its direction.

As the nature particles moved with Aker's hand, the excitement he felt from moving them all through the night still existed exactly the same, he held his breath as the particles made contact with the poshige.

Aker's eyes went wide as the nature particles collided with the first layer, he was antic.i.p.ating his glorious first success and then....they simply pa.s.sed through doing nothing.

The feeling a person has when they are thrilled and then when the moment arrives it's a complete and total let down, that was the feeling Aker had at this exact moment. He had antic.i.p.ated being able to guide the nature particles right into his ingredient, he had contemplated over it, repeatedly until it was already a fact for him. He had grand thoughts; however reality had a different idea.

After a flash of disappointment Aker quickly collected his thoughts and then began experimenting. He began by slicing up the poshige and trying again. Nothing. He tried dicing the poshige. Nothing. He tried mincing the poshige. Nothing.

After he went through all of his different cuts, he tried cooking the poshige. Nothing. He tried adding the poshige to another ingredient. Nothing.

Each time he would gently push his hand at the poshige, stop his hand roughly fifteen centimeter from it and each time the nature particles would simply pa.s.s through.

After trying dozens of variations of moving the nature particles at the ingredient and food Aker determined that simply "throwing" the nature particles at his intended target was probably not the right approach. After thinking on in it for a moment he was almost certain that this approach wouldn't work.

'As people walk around, they constantly come into contact with nature particles without absorbing it as nature particles are everywhere. Why would pushing them at the poshige be any different from casually making contact?'

With that thought Aker considered his situation. When he absorbed them, he is forcing the nature particles into his body, perhaps the same concept needed to be used here as well?

Aker contemplated for a moment and then rather than move his hand forward in a pushing motion he brought his hand down and rested it on the poshige. Since Aker had started with a poshige for his first trial he continued digging through the waste pile grabbing poshige.

Thankfully poshige were used in a significant number of dishes so there was never a shortage of them to be found in the waste pile.

As the nature particles followed Akers hand, they followed the same arc coming into contact to the poshige through the back of Aker's hand. Going through Aker's hand and into the poshige Aker focused on trying to inject the poshige with the nature particles. When the nature particles made contact with the poshige they disappeared into it.

"Hahahahahahaha…...SUCESSSSSS! I DID IT!" Aker screamed out seeing that the nature particles had successfully integrated into the poshige.

For the apprentices, they witnessed as Aker simply raised his hand and palmed a poshige then began screaming about being able to touch it. This was following hours of repeatedly pushing his hand at the poshige. For hours everyone in the kitchen watched as Aker pushed his hand at the poshige, got irritated and tried again. Cut up the poshige and pushed his hand at it. Minced up the poshige and tried again. Everyone was beginning to feel that their idol Novice Cook was losing his mind. When Aker is working in the kitchen, he is under constant observation by the apprentices and other cooks due to his creative and amazing cooking styles.

The moment they watched him actually touch the poshige and then scream at the top of his lungs that he had done it, everything became clear. He had completely lost his mind. He pretended for hours that there was a barrier preventing himself from getting to the poshige. He tried different methods to overcome the barrier and then screamed out when he successfully was able to reach past the barrier.

As crazy as the thoughts of everyone in the kitchen who witnessed Aker's actions was, they would never believe that Aker had successfully just taken the first step on the path of a magic cook. If they knew why Aker was so excited, they too would be screaming "HE DID IT!" at the top of their lungs when he simply palmed the poshige.
