Amaku Yasashii Sekai de Ikiru ni wa Chapter 42 Part1

It was quite dark, the blazing fire was our only source of light. Around the campfire, there was the meat that had been preserved earlier and some vegetables that were skewered with a tree branch.

Thanks to Sansenpai's magic the meat turned out delicious.

My stomach was growling by the sizzling and the aroma the meat made as it was being cooked by the flames of the hot fire. As I approached my limit, my stomach almost made the sound of a dying animal. I tried to look at Ballad who had prepared the overall menu and attempted to send a signal.

Ballad felt my gaze on him. I pulled out one of the branches out of the fire and checked.

"Doyle-sama, you'll get burned, please come here. It's a little burnt, please try it." (Ballad)

"Thank you" (Doyle)

"Prince, you can eat this." (Jin)

"Yes. Itadakimasu" (Gray)

I smiled at Gray as Jin grabbed the branch in front of him and Ballad continue his praising. 

It can't be helped, even though it is not poisoned, the knights have to check it. After confirming that Jin wasn't poisoned, the prince will eat it. I also then proceeded to consume the meat I had. The flavour of the meat juice flooded into my mouth and the spices sprinkled on  it were exquisite. 

As I savoured the meat in my mouth, Reichi-senpai and Sansenpai who were sitting in front of me started a quarrel.

"Oi! No matter how I see it, it's alive, isn't it?!" 

""Aniki is here, so everything is fine""

"Even if you eat a lot of things, I won't give you any!"

""Eeehh?""

"Even if you act like that, you're not cute at all!"

Due to hunger, he pulled at the branch with the bigger chunk of meat. As the two  argued some more, Leo-senpai cut them off. The uppercla.s.sman followed Leo-senpai's lead,while Ballad retrieved the branches from their hands and reheated it back near the fire. Then, they both get a branch with a smaller chunk of meat than the one they had before.

The two senpais disagreed with  Ballad's actions, but on remembering today's event, they sat down quietly and nibbled the meat that was given to them.

As Leo-senpai watched, he exclaimed "You're amazing!" to Ballad. To that, he replied shortly, "Thank you very much" and came back to my side.  Ballad sat opposite to the prince and got his own branch to eat.

I hardly ever did anything by myself but at the same time no matter who my partner was, unless the people are at a disadvantage, Ballad will rarely be like that.

No matter what the cause was, for some reason, the current Ballad wasn't the same Ballad who always used to be scared. At times, Ballad had the same air as Sebas.

He was like Uncle Sebas who's by the side of Father and preached with a horse's whip mercilessly. 

I nodded my head upon recalling the annoying and merciless Sebas.

Stop. I don't want to remember Sebas. It only reminds me of my childhood.

… Let's focus on the delicious food. Right.

To prevent from retaining memories of Sebas, I concentrate on eating the food before me.

 By the way, counterclockwise to my left; the Prince, Jin, Leo-senpai, Reichi-senpai, Sansenpai and Ballad surrounded the campfire.

I subtly touched my katana. In the end, we picked up the horns of the horned-momongga and then burned the rest of the parts to clean up. 

Sadly, the other parts of it were useless except the horns. The meat wasn't  delicious either . The blood stank and had to be immediately disposed of before any beast got attracted by it. 

After we finished cleaning up the horned momongga, although it's a little early, we searched for other campsites.

Though it's not really hard, thanks to the last resort of Ballad, we were able to find a dry place near the water source. In there, we set up camp.

Since I did it many times back in Middle School, we were able to finish without trouble before it got dark. While Ballad then prepared the dinner.

The seven people surrounding the fire, the meat prepared quickly disappeared.

As expected of growing men. There was one woman among them but if you look at her physique, you won't be able to distinguish, so it's fine not to differentiate.

The meat was disappearing fast. I stopped thinking about this matter and quickly grabbed the next branch.

Then I ate hurriedly until full.

We finished dinner in a short time. We poured  some tea on the fire to put it out and thought about what to do tomorrow.

"I know there were many wizards. How did you do last year?"

"I did well last year. Our party was a bit in the shallow parts, it was far from the level of what you did today. You three were fighting really hard, now I know what Hengst-sensei meant … well, there were about 10 or fewer warabits appearing not in a herd and about 10-12 horned momongga's. I felt like there were many people approaching too deep."

"Ah, is that so?"

After hearingLeo-senpai, Prince Gray started to speculate. 

For Gray and Jin's sake, I don't really mind if there were too many but certainly, even I heard that there were many wizards.

But the deeper they go, the stronger they are and the more people there are. Is it because we are close to the depths, or is it abnormal? It's hard to say.
