Russ pushed his way through the debris as quickly as he could. He watched as Raven quickly got over her shock and rushed farther down the hall. Her words were m.u.f.fled by the pounding in his ears. His senses were on high alert as the smell of dried blood reached his nose. He stumbled through the wreckage as his brain thought of all the horrible things that could have happened. {Where is my sister? What has happened to Rin? Naru? What does this mean for Jos? Is this what she meant?} A strong hand clamping down on his shoulder snapped Russ out of his brain-fog.
Orion pushed past Russ, "Part of my job here is to protect you. Move aside while I clear the rooms."
Russ rolled his eyes as he continued toward the room Raven had disappeared into. "I don't need protecting just worry about finding my sister… and Joslyn."
Orion shot him an irritated glance as he stopped in front of the first closed door, "Joslyn isn't my concern, you and your sister are." He didn't wait for Russ's reaction as he turned and moved into the room.
Russ snarled at Orion's retreating back, but instead of arguing with the man he continued into the open-door Raven had gone into. His heart leaped into his throat as he took in the room. Raven was meticulously examining the bloodied, motionless body on the ground. The face was bruised and bloodied to an unrecognizable extent but there was no mistaking the scent of his friend. This was Naru. Russ didn't realize he had begun backing up until he b.u.mped into the solid chest of Orion, who had entered the room without him even realizing it.
"What's the prognosis?" Orion asked Raven, stepping around Russ ignoring him as he walked over toward her.
Raven's attention never left Naru as she continued examining his body. "He'll recover, but it won't be anytime soon." She flipped his head to one side carefully. "Someone injected him with something here." She indicated a faint pinp.r.i.c.k in his neck. "I a.s.sume it was to prevent him from shifting."
Orion took his phone out and began scrolling through his contact list. He called over his shoulder as he walked out of the room, "I have a first aid kit in the truck."
Orion had just finished pulling out the first aid kit when he saw a familiar face emerge from the apartment office. He quickly slammed the door and moved across the parking lot with large strides. "Who called you out here?"
The woman dressed in all black leather bent to retrieve a bag from the ground, not bothering to turn toward the demanding voice behind her. "You know that information is confidential." She turned a key in the door and hung a sign in the window to keep unsuspecting humans from stumbling in on the clean up that was going on inside.
Orion slammed his hand against the door just inches away from her face. "Not when it involves a job I'm doing for the council."
She met his angry eyes in the reflection of the window. "You'll be putting me in danger if I tell you."
Orion sent her a wicked grin, "You're a big girl, you can handle yourself."
She turned away from the all too familiar penetrating eyes of her ex-lover. "Not if it's against the DeMarco's."
Orion let his hand slide away from the window. "Are these boys going to give me trouble?"
She turned to face him. "You don't seem surprised."
He shrugged, "I already suspected. Now answer me."
She held his gaze for a moment before answering, "Trouble like you've never had before. This isn't the first call I've had since they came to the states over a year ago." She turned back to the door and turned the key once again, this time opening the door. "It's not even the worst…"
Orion peered over her shoulder. There was blood everywhere, but the heaviest concentration was around the desk. "What happened here?"
Her face fell into a heavy frown, "Dante DeMarco happened here…" She pulled the door closed as she continued. "The DeMarco attack dog, called in anytime the head needs something done but doesn't want to get his hands dirty." She sighed heavily as she relocked the door.
Orion crossed his arms, "Xavier DeMarco?" When she nodded, he arched a brow and asked, "But isn't he the one trying push for peace among the vamp clans? I thought he was the white knight of the council? Why would he need his brother to do his dirty work?"
She sent him a worried expression, "Far from it. Dante DeMarco is well known for being a psychopath, just like their father. But what isn't known is that Xavier DeMarco is just as bad… if not worse." She glanced around the parking lot before meeting Orion's stern eyes. "If they knew I was telling you this, I'd be in no better shape than the poor b.a.s.t.a.r.d we just sc.r.a.ped up in there."
Orion narrowed his eyes, "But you're going to tell me anyway."
She sighed, "Not here." She flipped through her keys again and walked over to the apartment connected to the office. "In here, it's the office manager's apartment."
Orion followed her inside without saying anything. Once the door was shut and locked he flopped over onto the small sofa and patted the cushion beside him. "Come sit, I have a feeling this is going to be a long story."
She sighed heavily as she took the seat beside him. "The whole peace thing is just a front. Their real agenda is to control the clans and overtake the council… to finish what their father started… and they'll succeed too. Between the two of them, they have something their father never did."
"And what's that?" Orion tested the st.u.r.diness of the table before propping his large feet upon it.
Fear colored her words as she answered, "Cunning and cruelty. You saw Dante's work back there. He takes pride in his abilities to torture, torment, and mutilate anyone who stands in his way, but he's not the worst. Xavier's body count nearly doubles that of his brother. The difference is were Dante is sloppy and frequently requires the aid of cleanup crews, Xavier is smart and neat about his. He prefers to charm and manipulate his victims leaving them blinded till the end."
Orion sent her a skeptical look, "If he's so clean about it, how do you know whether he has killed or not?"
A blush colored her caramel cheeks, "The same way I know about you, Orion the hunter."
A wicked grin crept across his face. He leaned over toward her cupping her face in a large hand and pulled her into a rough kiss. He kissed her until she had completely melted into his arms and moaning against his lips. He lifted her onto his lap pushing the leather skirt up over her hips. "I can't help but think if I'd been born with a pair of t.i.ts like yours, my job would be much easier." He watched as anger and embarra.s.sment colored her features, then chuckled. When she struggled to get off his lap, he held her firm in one hand and cupped her lush breast with the other. "No point getting mad, it's the truth. I bet you use this body to your advantage all the time."
She drew back and slapped him hard across the face, "Would you like me to remind you what this body can do?"
His grin spread from ear to ear as a red handprint heated his cheek. "Please do. My memory just isn't what it used to be." He winked up at her before pulling her against him and recapturing her lips.

When Orion walked back into the apartment upstairs, the kid had finally regained consciousness and Raven had cleaned most of the blood from his upper body. He tossed the first aid kit toward her.
"Hurry and patch the kid up, we're not safe here." He tossed the keys at Raven before signaling to
Russ to get up and follow him. "I need you all to have your s.h.i.t packed and ready in an hour." He looked at Raven for a second then added, "You need to close that little bar of yours too. Call and get everyone out as soon as your done here."
Raven jumped to her feet and followed him as he walked back toward the ransacked living room. "What the f.u.c.k?! I'm not even asking where you've been for the past hour, the lipstick and open fly answers that but what gives you the right to come in here and order us around without explanation? Don't you even want to hear what the kid has to say?"
He rolled his eyes at the hotheaded fairy, "Sure, but not here." He glanced back down the hallway and lowered his voice. "I ran into the cleanup crew downstairs. It wasn't ordered by Dante… It was ordered by Xavier, with no loose ends left behind. The kid's to be killed if found alive." He smiled down into her confused eyes, "Lucky for you my fraternization and womanizing spreads to the best-used cleaners as well."
Raven rolled her eyes, "Figures… Aren't we lucky to know such a man-wh.o.r.e? Your c.o.c.k knows no limits, including innocent children." She turned to walk away before her anger got the best of her. {The last thing I need is to fight a demiG.o.d…}
Orion caught her arm. "I mean it, shut the bar down and get the kid out of here. And Joslyn was far from a child or innocent. You know that as well, as I." He released her arm as she pulled against his grip.
"f.u.c.k off, Orion." She bit out as she headed back down the hall.
"My orders stand, Raven." He yelled after her. "Get your a.s.ses moving." He redialed a number on his phone and began speaking to someone on the other end as she disappeared down the hall.
Raven walked into the room, two angry eyes glaring at her. She ignored him as she walked over to Naru. "Can you stand?" She held out her hand to him as he struggled up.
Russ walked over and took his friend's other arm to help him up. "You will explain that to me later." He hissed, still glaring at her.
"What part?" She asked without looking at him.
"You know d.a.m.n good and well what part!" Russ growled as he hooked an arm around Naru to help balance him.
Raven sighed, "Jos's suspicions were spot on. He was the one-"
"Not that part! The b.a.s.t.a.r.d has been taunting me this whole time about Jos and you knew they had a relationship? WTF?! Why didn't you say anything?" Russ fought to keep his emotions in check and his voice low.
Raven frowned, "Because she wouldn't want you to know… even if she did, she should be the one to tell you not me."
Russ snarled baring his canines, "Well she's not here, you are."
Raven shook her head but answered him anyways. "It not my place to tell you this, but in a nutsh.e.l.l, this is what happened…" She ran her hand through her hair and threw a glance at Naru. "After her father left her mother lost it, first going into a fit of rage, then deep depression followed by isolation. When Jos was born, she was so distraught Jos was sent away to be raised by…" She eyed Russ not wanting to give too much detail away in front of the injured werecat. "…Others… By the time her mother was willing to acknowledge her daughter and actually be a parent, Joslyn was pretty far along in age… and… unruly… That was when, against my advice, she called in Orion." She softly closed the door. "As great as he is at his job, Orion is as well known for his womanizing. Jos was taken by him almost right away and he knew it. He used it to his advantage, had his fun, and when his job was done left without a word. She found him some time after only to discover he was already with another." Her hand gripped the k.n.o.b, "This is all I'm willing to tell you. All you need to know about him is that he's the best at his job. Do what he says, and you'll go far but don't expect anything out of him. He'll only let you down."
Russ arched an eyebrow, "Why do I get the feeling you're leaving out a huge portion of this tale?"
Raven shrugged a frown set deep into her features, "Probably because I am…" She pulled the door open and walked out trying her best to clear a path for Russ and Naru. "Let's go. He's right it's not safe here and neither will our apartment be. If Dante didn't find what he was looking for here then chances are, he'll go to our apartment tonight."
Russ's brows arched in confusion, "Why tonight?"
"Vampires who kill have problems coming into the sun. It's temporary after a kill, but if the vampire kills frequently then it becomes more long-lasting." She answered matter-of-factly.
"Dante hasn't been able to stand in the sun for well over a century, and Xaiver can only do so because he has others to do his dirty work for him." Orion added as he hung up the phone."

Russ's eyes widened, "Then Joslyn is in trouble! We have to get to her!" He began moving toward the front door in a hurry until Naru grunted loudly in pain beside him. He glanced down at his injured friend. "Sorry man, I almost forgot."
Orion walked over lifting the boy into his arms, "Come on kids, let's get going. You can tell me what was said on the way to my place."
