The Concubine's Daughter Comes Around 20: Go Check Up On The Dong Family

Well, Prince Jitian really liked to ask questions.

Dong Ling rolled her eyes, but didn’t give him a direct answer.

Instead, she replied, “You’re asking too much. To survive in this world, we need some skills, don’t we? I know you wonder how I learned such skills. But don’t bother to ask. We never explain about out secret skills!”

Wu Jitian winced because he hadn’t expected that Dong Ling refused to explain in such a euphemistic way of speaking! Then he lowered his head, smiled and apologized, “Sorry, Miss Dong. Please kindly forgive me.”

Dong Ling didn’t reply, either.

Instead, she sat with her back to him and worked on something in front of her. Suddenly, she loosened her grip and smiled.

She hailed, “Done! Finally, I make it!”

It was just then that Wu Jitian noticed what she had been doing. She got back some sticks before anyone else noticed and right now the sticks were burning.

“Well, all we need is the ingredient. I’ll be right back!” Dong Ling yelled and ran out quickly even before Wu Jitian replied.

A short moment later, she turned up again at the entrance, with a kicking vole in her hand.

She skinned the vole skillfully, cleaned it, stringed it on bamboo sticks and roasted it over the fire. Meanwhile, she took out some little bottles from her pack and added some seasoning.

Only a few minutes later, the smell of roasted vole began to pervade.

Staring at the greasy vole, Wu Jitian couldn’t help swallowing. He didn’t it secretly, but Dong Ling still saw that. She smiled and handed him a vole.

The sudden food dumbed him. Instead of declining it, he took it over and said thank you.

After enjoying the vole, Dong Ling took out a little bottle, poured out some pills and gave them to Wu Jitian and Lin Zang.

She explained, “Pills to ward off colds. Take them, in case you have a fever tonight.”

Noticing such bright pills, Wu Jitian and Lin Zang looked at each other. Through the hard trip, they had begun to trust Dong Ling. Consequently, they took the pills that they hadn’t even heard of.

Feeling their trust, Dong Ling felt warm, too. She also swallowed one pill.

But she failed to notice that just when Wu Jitian was about to take it, Lin Zang grabbed it quickly and whispered, “I’ve never heard of such pills to ward off colds. We’ll just stay for one night. How could we easily fall sick? I’ll take it for you in case we get poisoned!”

Before Wu Jitian took it back, Lin Zang swallowed the pills immediately, looking as if he knew he were dying.

Then they lay by the fire for some rest. After the whole day’s exhaustion, they all fell asleep quickly.  

In the latter half of the night, Wu Jitian really had a fever! Because of his wound, he had lost much blood. After the long trip, he fell sick undoubtedly.

Hearing his talking when he was delirious, Lin Zhang struggled up and checked him! His face was as burning as the boiling water.

The noise also woke Dong Ling up. She got up and walked to Wu Jitian. She touched his forehead with her hand and looked embarra.s.sed.

Then, she took up the dagger to untie his coat. Meanwhile, she put some s...o...b..a.l.l.s on him.

Lin Zhang was completely shocked! He yelled to stop her, “Miss Dong! What the h.e.l.l are you doing? He needs the quilt to get himself warm! But you’re killing him!”

Dong Ling had to take care of Wu Jitian and also explain to Lin Zhang who had no common sense at all. She really wanted to stab him with the dagger! What the h.e.l.l! How much more must she suffer just to realize her dream to be a general?

“Where can you find a quilt now? Tomorrow, you’ll know if I’m saving him or killing him!” replied her.

Her reply rendered Lin Zang speechless while the latter had to stay and watch her do something he didn’t understand.

The next day, Wu Jitian got rid of the fever.

That was so fast that Lin Zhang really admired Dong Ling.

He panicked when he peeped at Dong Ling who sat cross-legged near him and looked lost in thought.

It had been the first time that he feared someone other than his master. He thought, “What a mysterious girl! And she’s way too powerful!”

Well, he thought better of it. What a weird place her family was! He wondered how her families treated her. She made a living, relying on her own efforts. He was afraid that everyone knew her would think she was a homeless girl.

“Lin Zang!” Dong Ling hissed and woke Lin Zhang up when he was lost in various fancies.  

Maybe he had been staring at Dong Ling for so long that she realized it. She narrowed her eyes, which gave Lin Zang the creeps.

The experience of getting tortured by Dong Ling flashed across his mind again.

He was surprised and looked away immediately with fear. Never did he dare to look back again.

He apologized, “Miss Dong, sorry to offend you. Please forgive me!” It was his first time to make such a respectful apology.

“Fine. You seem to be all right. Ask Lin Zang to take care of you. I’ll go get you something to eat.” Dong Ling said to Wu Jitian. It seemed the latter still failed to walk on. She would rather get something to eat to conserve their energy.

Dong Ling turned around and walked out weakly. Wu Jitian noticed that with keen observation and frowned.

He understood that Dong Ling had been exhausted to keep him safe. Strong as she was, the exhaustion was still too much for a girl like her.

Wu Jitian squinted and knocked on the ground. He ordered, “Lin Zang, if we manage to go back safely, go check up on the Dong family.”

“Her family must have something to do with Dong Ling’s behaviors.” thought Wu Jitian as he doubted.

If she hadn’t helped him again and again, he and his bodyguard would have been killed long ago!

After he went back safely, he would certainly help her out.

“Oh, I almost forgot. You used to be vigilant. But just now you were staring at her! Let me guess. Did you have a crush on her?” asked Wu Jitian when he turned around and smiled faintly.

He was speaking in a gentle way, but he sounded really earsplitting to Lin Zhang. The latter knelt down with fear and begged for mercy, “How dare I like her! My Lord!”

He even had a premonition that Miss Dong would be his master’s wife.

Wu Jitian laughed grimly and stared coldly at him. He replied, “Hope so. You’ve been working for me for years. I think you know me.”

Surely, Lin Zang realized what his master really meant. He was so scared that he broke out in a cold sweat. Just because his master liked Miss Dong, he couldn’t help shuddering with terror.

Wu Jitian wasn’t as gentle as he appeared to be. Whoever dared to disobey him would definitely lose his life!
