Chapter 49 – The Lemuri Mountain Range

[So this the new Hunting Ground eh . ]

[Not exactly a very scenic place . ]

Before our eyes, was a barren and rocky mountain range rather than the green forest-ty kind of mountain that I imagined .

Big a.s.s rocks were littered all over the area, they’d cause real problems to anyone climbing the mountain if they started rolling downhill .

And monsters with tough looking blue hide roam about here .

[So these are the monsters that sp.a.w.n here . Unlike the ones we have seen until now, they have a sort of intense look on their faces . ]

[They certainly look very st.u.r.dy for a humanoid type monster . Feels like you’d get a good response if you smack them . ]

They have that lizard like face just like I imagined . Their hide looks super tough, and has some spiky spots .

Unlike the Eagle Warriors who roam in large numbers, you only see a handful of sword wielding Lizardman walking around the rocky mountain .

This place is pretty darn far away from the City, and the numbers sure don’t look suitable for Area Hunting . It’s Status checking time .

Their levels are on the higher side compared to us . My party is currently averaging out at around level 50, so they are at least good for getting some exp .

From looking at their Status I’d say they are just a tad stronger than the Eagle Warriors .

[It feels too strange for there to be only so few roaming about . Our field of view is hampered by the many rocks on the mountain . It wouldn’t be surprising if more of them appear from their hiding spots after our initial attack . ]

[That’s right . It’s too unnatural when compared to the other Hunting Grounds we have been to . It would be wise to not carelessly use magic attacks . ]

Certainly like what she said, it’s very strange for there to be so few monsters around despite it being a Hunting Ground .

There are many blind spots due to the many rocks and the topography of the mountain itself .

Perhaps more of them lie waiting in those spots .

[We’ll test the waters by luring and defeating one that is isolated first then . Would it be alright to let Noru be the attacker against this monster?]

[Shisuha is combat capable as well . I think Okursan only needs to protect the rear members and Shisuha can cover for anything else . ]

Noru is our attacker this time and is our front line, I’m in the middle, Estel and Shisuha are at the rear .

Noru can fall back to where I am if she’s in trouble, while I block any monsters that try to get to our rear line .

We got Shisuha with us so I don’t think we would have problems, but just in case we’ll play it defensively for now . If it’s a 1 on 1 Noru should be able to handle it on her own just fine .

Shisuha and Estel buffs the party with their support magic, after which a magic attack was launched at what seemed to be an isolated Lizardman .

The fireball lands and the monster staggers slightly, it notices us then lets out a roar with its eyes fixed on us .

From which multiple silhouettes jumped out consecutively, from the shadows of the rocks surrounding the Lizardman that was attacked .

[Wha, what the!?]

[A whole bunch appeared altogether just like I thought they would . I shall proceed to engage them . Estel support plz . ]

[Sure, leave it to me . ]

Although it’s still the same Lizardman that appeared, there were a total of 8 Lizardmen including the one we initially attacked rushing towards us .

Sword, axe, spear, bow, each of them wielded different weapons, it’s as if they were their own party .

Noru ran towards them to intercept .

As the Lizardmen advanced towards us, 2 of them split off from the group and began releasing ranged attacks with their bows and arrows .

Noru parried the arrows that targeted her with her sword, and made contact with the remaining group without losing any momentum .

She evades the sword that was swung at her by the sword wielding Lizardman which was the first to cross paths with her, and chops one of its arms off in return .

Next an axe wielding Lizardman circled behind Noru and raised its axe, but the axe along with both arms that were holding it with were lopped off by a swift turning reaction from Noru before it could even swing down .

Then a Spear suddenly thrusts out from that same Lizardman’s abdomen .

As though judging that the axe wielder had become useless, the spear wielding Lizardman made its attack from behind the axe wielder .

Even against such an unexpected attack, Noru still manages to block the attack with her shield and kicks away the two stacked Lizardmen .

At that point Estel releases her supporting magic attack, the 3 initial Lizardman attackers were immobilised as they get engulfed by the b.a.l.l.s of fire .

[I’m sure Shisuha is amazing too, but Noru just makes it look so easy…]

[I can’t really compare to a proper frontliner like her . Haaa, Noru-san sure is wonderful… . . I’d like to have a heartfelt conversation with her sometime . ]

Being attacked by multiple enemies like that, that’s not the sort of thing I can handle .

The Lizardmen encircled her shortly after making contact to create a frantic melee, but she’s dodging the attacks like she already knows where they are coming from .

Also that spear attack should have blindsided her, she must have mad reflexes to have blocked it at the moment she saw the attack .

Shisuha who watched the encounter unfold was enamoured as she mumbled to herself .

She talks about having a “conversation” but I have my doubts… . . Now that you have piqued her interest, the most I can do is wish you good luck Noru .

[Fuu, they aren’t exactly ‘strong’ if you take them 1 at a time . Though this may still be too early for Okurdono to handle . ]

[This isn’t the kind of monster to engage with only 1 frontliner in the first place… . . ]

The remaining aggro’d monsters were felled steadily, with the bow users being the last

With their frontliners all defeated, the only option left for the bow users was to attempt an escape and that made them easy pickings .

Noru practically defeated the entire monster party by herself, me and Shisuha didn’t do much of anything .

The most we did was repel arrows that were targeting Estel .

The Drop Items are Lizardman Hide and the weapons that they wielded .

[So I’m guessing we can a.s.sume 1 group has 6 melee fighters, and 2 bow users?]

[It’s probably better to not thoughtlessly attack those single Lizardman that are on lookout . ]

After engaging in several more battles, we have mostly confirmed the initial 1 Lizardman which stays in the open to be something of a patrolling scout .

When that 1 Lizardman gets attacked, it uses its Roar Skill to alert and call its allies that are standing by in the surrounding area .

Every group we fought had 6 melee fighters, and 2 bow users who will attack from long range .

[Hーrm, this probably isn’t the place to farm for manastones… . ]

[Your motivations really change on the fly whenever the Gacha gets involved . It’s no good to just suddenly lose interest like that . ]

Compared to the mobs we can instkill back at the Northern Cave, the monsters here are just outright more troublesome .

The efficiency of getting the Rare Variant to sp.a.w.n here probably isn’t very good .

In exchange the monster levels here are much higher, which is good for getting exp but…… My motivation is mostly gone for now .

As I thought of hunting the Rare Variant and going home and looked over the mountainous rocks, when suddenly a black colored Lizardman leaped out from behind those rocks .

[Nn? Something has appeared… Geh!?]

[This might get a little dicey . ]

I’m pretty sure that it’s the Rare Variant, but more of the same black Lizardmen kept appearing until there were 8 in total .

Contrary to the single rare monster sp.a.w.n we are used to seeing, it just so happens you need to fight 8 of them at the same time here… . . Better have a look at its Status .

[Yeah go ahead but return immediately after you finish off the last of them . It’d be bad if you collapsed again like before . ]

On the condition that she returns before the effect expires, I gave Noru permission to use her Skill .

She gave a jolly response, after which a silver colored light envelops her body to show that she has activated her Skill .

She makes her move shortly after, and the next instance I saw her she already closed the distance with the first Kepool and was swinging her sword down .

Due to her ludicrous speed, me, Estel and Shisuha all let out a “Eh?” unanimously .

The first Kepool that was attacked left this world, never even noticing Noru’s approach .

The aftershock of the attack minces every Lizardman in a straight line away from the direction of the swing .

Apparently the shockwaves are released from the tip of her sword, as a portion of the rocky mountain surface got destroyed in the process as well .

[Uwaa… . . Are you s.h.i.tting me . ]

[Even though this is the first time I’m seeing her use her Skill……it’s really incredible . ]

[Sure she’s powered-up, but who’d have thought she’d get that beefed up . ]

Having noticed one of their own to have been sent to the afterlife, the remaining Kepool began making their move to a.s.sault Noru .

But even so, to the current Noru it’s like a bunch of ants trying to fight an elephant .

Before the Kepool could even make any proper moves, their extremities and heads get severed one after another . It’s as though they are no different from the regular Lizardman .

The aftershock of her attacks have also been affecting the surrounding area, there was no shortage of regular Lizardman appearing and charging towards her .

The Kepool which were the initial targets were already gone, and the other Lizardman turned into meat chunks by the numbers with little effort on Noru’s part .

[Fufufu, I feel great with a capital G! I don’t feel like I’ll lose to anyone right now!]

For now she is able to move her mouth with the help of Shisuha’s healing magic, but she is unable to move her body at all .

It’s not like we can do anything about that so I’m currently carrying her on my back .

[Not even Shisuha’s recovery magic can help her fully recover . ]

Noru was unable to even speak at first, but her condition was reduced to the level of severe muscle ache with the help of healing magic .

Together with the evolution of her Skill, the recoil has evolved as well…… Her Skill is still so hard to make full use of .
