Notice That Slime, the Boss-monster ~The Lowest Slime's Dungeon Management Story~ Chapter 2

After finishing the dungeon-boss contract, I checked my body for any differences.

“No, doesn’t looks like there are no abnormalities on my body.”
“Phew, looks like we’ve finished the dungeon contract. Now let me tell you about dungeons.”
“Wait, what? As a dungeon-boss all I have to do is wait around in the boss-room, right?”
As far as I knew, all dungeon-bosses did was wait in the dungeon-room at the back of the dungeon. And if they got defeated, you got the dungeon’s treasure before the dungeon collapsed a couple hours later.
“No, that’s not how it goes. The dungeon-boss has three main jobs: to recruit, expand and defend.”
There are also three jobs, huh? But, I won’t be expected to do them all alone, right?
“It’s too much work, I’ll leave it all to you.”
“If you order me to, I’ll take care of expansion and defense, but the dungeon-boss will have to take care of recruitment himself.”
Ciel seemed to be quite tired, having to explain the boss-monster thing to me.
“When you say recruitment, who exactly am I supposed to recruit?”
“The dungeon monsters, of course! You have to go to the World of Chaos and persuade monsters to defend the dungeon. Other than defending the boss-room, it’s the dungeon-boss’ most important job.”
“Don’t the monsters just show up voluntarily from the outside, wanting to live in the dungeon?”
“Ah, I’ll guess this is where I have to explain everything to you. Monsters only show up like that if you have a sp.a.w.n-point. However, before you decide to arbitrarily set up a sp.a.w.n-point, there are certain conditions you have to fulfill. For example, if you decide to set up a goblin sp.a.w.n-point, you’ll first have to scout fifty goblins. Well, there are monsters that decide to live in the dungeon from the outside, but if they’re not scouted, they won’t obey the dungeon-boss. They’re basically intruders.”
“Whaaaa… That’s so tedious. So right now, there’s no way to make a sp.a.w.n-point?”
“Well, it depends on the dungeon-boss. You could to set one up from the get go, but..” Ciel said tracing in some kind of gesture in the air.
“… it’s only for baby-slimes. The first sp.a.w.n-point is free. From the second one onwards it’ll cost 100 points each. It looks like each point sp.a.w.ns 20 baby-slimes a day.”
“Baby-slime? Even a child could defeat one of those! That’s like, the world’s most useless monster.”
“It’s not my fault! It’s because you, the dungeon-boss, are a slime!”
You’re right in saying that, but the one that summoned this slime was you, wasn’t it?
“… Come to think of it, you just said 100 points, right? What does that mean?”
“It’s what we use to expand dungeons. Dungeon-fairies need it for trade and dungeon-bosses need it for growth. You start out with 0 points and then depending on the dungeon intruders, you get points. For example, a goblin is worth one point a day. If you kill it in the dungeon you will receive ten times the points.”
“Well, can’t you just summon a monster?”
“I can’t summon points. I can only summon the boss-monster. I can borrow them from other dungeon-fairies, or even receive them, but in that case, they won’t count as scouted monsters.”
So that’s how it is.
I guess if they allowed you to include borrowed or given monsters into your scout-count you’d be able to create a sp.a.w.n-point without actually having to scout the monsters out yourself. It would be a loophole for sure.
If I, for example, borrowed 50 goblins one day to create a sp.a.w.n-point I could returned them the next after the sp.a.w.n-point was installed.
In other words, there’s no way around having to scout Wild Monsters, huh?
“The usual way of doing it is to first display your strength, throw down the monster and then recruit it.”
“But I’m a slime, right? Are there any monsters that slimes can beat?”
“You’re not an ordinary slime though, are you? You’re a dungeon-boss now, so you should have some type of special power. And although I can’t a.s.sist you directly, I can support you with magic and strengthen Tard somewhat. I think we could probably take down an orc.”
“Wow, an orc, huh? So I guess this might work out after all. What about the special power though?”
I signed the contract but, I haven’t felt any changes or presences of any unusual powers.
My tentacle ability can’t really be considered special and they can only extend to about five meters.
“Is there a way for you to find out how strong you are?”
“It’s easy with Appraisal Magic. Here, I’ll cut down on the chanting a bit. 《Thou, showest thyself. Search Eye》.”
Ciel casted that kind of magic. Did she really just shorten a chant that needed at least five seconds into something that took less than one?
“Huh? I can’t see it. Gimme a sec, I’ll chant it properly this time.”
It looks like she failed. This time Ciel quickly cast her magic. She spoke the words so quickly that I wasn’t able to catch them. Was it a high-speed chant? It seems more like an artistic performance than anything magic related.
“What the? I really can’t see it–“
“Wow, I guess you really can’t use magic, can you?”
“That’s not it, at all! Oh, I know! Let’s draw up the dungeon-menu! Tard, touch any wall of this room.”
“The wall? So it’s fine if I touch Ciel’s chest?”
“You can’t do that! And anyway, it’s not a wall, it’s not that flat.”
“I guess you’re right, and I know because I saw.”
It’s around a B-cup right? I guess even though you can’t say it’s bit, it’s also not flat enough to be called a wall.
It looked like it would be fun to tease Ciel some more, but I was also curious about my power so I stretched my tentacle out to touch the wall. Naturally, nothing happened. The cool feeling of the walls transfers over to my tentacle.
By the way, my tentacle is about five meters long, about as thick as a human thumb, and I can only put one out at a time.
“Try saying ‘Start’ when you touch it.”
“Start,” I said this time, doing as I was told
Then, the wall I was touching suddenly turned white and flat.
“This is a screen, and the magical display shows the menu.”
“Screen, huh? Some letters showed up.”
What is all of this: Dungeon Expansion, Item Generation, Sp.a.w.n Creation, Intruder Information, Monster Management?
All written in human language.
Is it because I used human words to start it up with? However, the character language is limited to a small part of humans like the dragon language compared to the monster language, so that may not be the case.
“The textbook said that it would take a while to start it up the first time, but it wasn’t that bad, was it? Try touching Monster Management.”
I touched “Monster Management” and the screen changed.
My name, b.a.s.t.a.r.d, was at the top, followed by ‘Ciel – Fuan Fuan – Shine’“.
“Heeeeey, Fuan-Fuan.”
“I knew you’d say that. What is it, Tard?”
“Nah, nothing, I just wanted to call you.”
“… Please do not call me by that name again. Let’s try touching b.a.s.t.a.r.d. Can your tentacle reach that far?”
My name is very high up there, but my tentacle can just barely reach it.
So touching the name will let me see the stats, huh?
I touched the name without hesitating.

“Why are you looking at my information?!” Ciel came to me angrily and yet she wanted me to share my thoughts with her.
“… to be loved by misfortune.”

Ciel got angrier than I expected.
There’s something nagging me about the Dungeon School, but seeing as she’s the head of cla.s.s and can also use a considerable amount of magic, maybe I was summoned to a good partner.

Basically, I’m unbeatable against magic.
Since slime monsters are quite ineffective with magic, this skill is quite useful.
“But my age is just one day, I guess I was just born… Ciel? Why are you shedding enough tears to supply a waterfall?”
“I can’t help it, I’m unhappy.”
“Huh? And why is that?”
“Magic Disability,” Ciel said pointing at the words with her right index finger.
I thought it was a useful strength, why is she upset?
“Well, maybe the Magic Disability doesn’t only apply to enemy attacks…”
“Auxiliary and Recovery Magic will also be invalid. That’s why I was unable to see Tard’s stats with Search Eye. Tard is a magic-ineffective slime, right?”
Ciel cried, “It’s useless. That’s why I am unhappy!” and began to weep.
